    2. Regarding the recent MiMaComb-L posting saying: > Do you have family tree software? You have to have family tree > software to open a gedcom file. You can download a free one called > GenoPro at www.download.com. Or you can buy one with more options > atBest Buy or Circuit City. Or I can send you a text file of the > information that you will be able to open with any wordprocessing > program. Every Computer Genealogy Program I know of will read (and write) Gedcom files, not just Family Tree Maker. Gedcom was developed primarily for that purpose, to transfer data from one program to another. Bill

    3. I too was surprised as I am sure almost any genealogy program will do GEDCOM. I use Legacy. You can download version 4.0 standard for free. No strings attached. It is an excellent program. Even the LDS FHC are installing it in addition to their free program Personal Ancestral File. I do use Family Tree Maker as it makes "pretty reports" but for nothing else. For good solid source and documentation I like Legacy. Here is where you can learn how to down load the free standard version. http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com Ann -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 10:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MiMacomb] Gedcom & Genealogy Programs Regarding the recent MiMaComb-L posting saying: > Do you have family tree software?
