A short history of the Zion Evangelical Church, know known as the Zion United Church of Christ, may be found in the Centennial History of Mount Clemens, chapter 7, beginning on p.115. This book is available online from the Mount Clemens Public Library home page at: http://offserv.libcoop.net/mtc/centhist.htm However, the download is VERY SLOW if you are using a dial-up connection to the 'net. If you are on cable modem or other high-speed access, it works fine. To my knowledge, the church does not currently have a web site, but here is the contact information: ZION UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 586-463-0069 68 NEW STREET, MOUNT CLEMENS MI 48043 Mount Clemens Public Library holds microfilm copies of original handwritten records in German held by Zion United Church of Christ (formerly Zion Evangelical Church), Mount Clemens, Michigan. The films include the constitution, church council minutes, birth records 1862-1904, marriages 1862-1904 and deaths 1864-1891. These films are not available for interlibrary loan; they must be searched on site. Further, these are handwritten records IN GERMAN, so a facility with the language and old German script is necessary to use them.
