    1. [MiMacomb] Walton Query--cemetery look-up
    2. Greetings from New Mexico! John Billings WALTON was born in Sterling Twp, Macomb Co, 30 Dec 1833. I am trying to place him in a family of origin. I know that his mother and father came to Michigan from New York and both died when John Billings was young. If someone has access to cemetery transcriptions, I'm requesting a look-up. The 1840 census lists a Jonathan WALTON in Shelby Twp; also a James WALTON; these are the only WALTONs in Macomb Co, according to the census. The 1850 census lists: Walton, Billings, age 16, farmer, b MI -----, Perry, age 24, b NY -----, Jane, age 18, b MI -----, Eunice L, age 3, b MI This 1850 entry appears to be the family I'm looking for as Billings is an unusual name, as Perry was born in NY, and as the parents are supposed to have died when John Billings was young. (Judging by the age of Eunice, assuming that she's a sibling, the mother died after 1847.) Jane Walton married George Warner in 1854; she died on 13 April 1860 in Macomb. I have looked at the DAR's transcription of Macomb Co Cemeteries, (published 1943), and the possible parents of these Waltons do not appear in this transcription, nor does Jane Walton WARNER or her husband. The Edgerton Cemetery is the only Sterling cemetery in this DAR document. The family was likely Protestant, probably Methodist (?). Does anyone have access to other local cemetery transcriptions who could look up the name WALTON? I really appreciate your help! Warm regards, Daniel Powers Albuquerque NM

    3. Carole, I was at Probate Court today so checked for your Newman Colvin. There are no records for him, nor any other early Colvin files. You said that he died in Lapeer Co in 1848. Was he a resident there? If so, that is where any probate records would be. No death records were recorded in Michigan until 1867 and even then there was not good compliance until after 1900. You also mentioned that he was buried in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. What was your source for this information, as none of my records for Mt. Vernon Cemetery show him.
