    1. [MiMacomb] Mount Clemens City Directory Index - new searches
    2. Debbie Larsen
    3. Mount Clemens Public Library is pleased to announce the availability of two new searches in the Mount Clemens City Directory Master Index. In addition to the surname/business name search, we now offer an employer search and a street name search. The employer name search may be helpful in compiling a list of all local employees of a particular business during the time period covered by the index. It will also demonstrate the year in which a given individual is first listed as an employee of the business, and the last year in which the person is listed as an employee (within the current limits of the database coverage). Likewise, the street index can demonstrate when a particular address number appears or disappears from a street, or when a particular individual appears at a given address, or disappears from a given address (again, within the current limits of the database coverage). To use these new searches, visit the Mount Clemens City Directory Master Index page at http://offserv.libcoop.net/mtc/MCDirectory.asp then scroll to the bottom of the page for the links to the Employer Search and Street Search. Happy hunting! Deborah Larsen Mount Clemens Public Library http://www.libcoop.net/mountclemens

    2. Mary D...
    3. As you can see from the signature at the end of this message, this is from Debbie Larson. Debbie, I have put this address [mcpl@libcoop.net] on the accept list now. You can send from this one or your regular address. Your MiMacomb ListManager, -- Mary D... _____________________________________________________________________ ICQ - 3081831 mary.daily@bigfoot.com http://www.idir.net/~medaily/ _____________________________________________________________________ Let us also pray for wisdom... for the grace of God that we do not become the evil that we abhor. -- Reverend Nathan Baxter, September 14, 2001 _____________________________________________________________________ -------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} Macomb WWI Draft Registration Index Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 08:57:55 -0700 From: MCPL <mcpl@libcoop.net> To: MIMACOMB-L@rootsweb.com To those researchers who are reporting "errors" in the Macomb WWI Draft Registration Index ( http://offserv.libcoop.net/mtc/draftindex.asp ): The information on the draft registration cards has been transcribed to the index EXACTLY as it appears on original card. This means that variations of names, spellings, and dates of birth will occur in the index. We will not be "correcting" or altering this information in any way, as it would be irresponsible custodianship of the historic record to change its original form. We understand that some of you may find a birth date or other information that does not jibe with your personal family records or other documents you may have in your possession. This phenomenon is typical of genealogical research; we often find records with conflicting or variant information. That is part of the research process. With respect to draft and military records in particular, it is not unusual to see a birth date "fudged" by a year; often the person was lying about his age to get in, or lying to stay out! For the greatest success in using our index, we recommend that you search all variant spellings/misspellings of the surname you seek, and evaluate all information you find in the index in light of other family records you may hold. 2. Debbie Larsen
    3. Dear Listers, The genealogy room of Mount Clemens Public Library will close for remodeling and expansion as of Monday, January 14, 2002. We do not have a precise reopening date at this time, but we expect the project to take approximately 2 weeks. The reopening of the genealogy collection will be announced on this list; however, you are welcome to telephone the library in advance of any visit for an update on the progress of the construction. The new-and-improved genealogy room will offer more seating, shelving space to accommodate a larger collection, and an additional microforms reader, among other things. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of transition. We regret any inconvenience this work may cause to your research schedules. 1. [MiMacomb] Seeking descendants of Harry BUTTERWORTH
    2. The Drummonds
    3. Hello, I am hoping to trace some living descendants of my Dad's cousin Harry/Henry BUTTERWORTH who lived in Detroit. Harry Butterworth was born on 16 April 1897 in Cleveland, Ohio. His parents were Charlie Butterworth and Dora Flachmeyer who got married on 10 July 1895 in Cuyahoga County. Harry was an only child from this marriage and his father remarried in Cleveland on 21 May 1913 to Bessie H Weyer. I have traced the family from Charlie's second marriage with the help of an elderly relative here in England and now I want to trace the family from the first marriage. Harry Butterworth married a girl called Effie about 1917 in Detroit, and I have a photo-postcard of them in 1917 with the address of "629 Michigan, Detroit, Mich." (another story says Harry's wife's name was Marie-lou and they had a daughter called Louise, but I have no evidence of this). From the 1910 census, I have the following: Cuyahoga County, Ohio Cleveland TWP BUTTERWORTH Charles 36 Eng Eng Eng 1892 Contractor Stone Dorthy 35 Oh Ger? Ger? Harry C. 13 Oh Eng OH If anyone has any connections to this family or can give me any advice, I would be most grateful. Regards, Caroline Drummond, in West Sussex, England. **************************************************************************** *********************************************** Watch out for VIRUSES!!!! Don't open any attachments, unless you have been told you are being sent one. I will always tell you if I am sending one and I will tell you what it is. Any other attachment could be a virus. My system is scanned regularly for viruses.

Mt Clemens Daily Leader, Feb 1 1929 Shot with a 12 gauge shotgun in the hands of his 17 year old, William, who had aimed at a rabbit, Charles Reiter, 40, a farmer, of near Ray Center, died in a local hospital at 10:30 o'clock this morning from loss of blood. Reiter and his son were returning home from a woods near where they had been felling trees at 4:10 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Young Reiter had taken a gun with him in order to shoot game if any were seen. On the way back his father kicked a brush heap and a rabbit jumped out. The boy shot and the contents of the gun discharged into his father's right leg between the knee and thigh. The boy ran to his home approximately a quarter of a mile away from the scene of the shooting and summoned his grandfather William Neiman screaming "I've shot dad, Hurry and get him." Neiman, who is 66 years old, and the boy's mother, took an automobile and drove through the fields to a place near a small mound where the wounded man lay. Unable to drive their car into the mound, the aged man and Reiter's wife attempted to carry the injured man to the automobile. He was too heavy for the man and woman so they dragged him for a distance of about ten feet to the car and loaded him in the vehicle. He was taken home and a physician called who gave Reiter first aid and sent him to St. Joseph's hospital here where he died today from loss of blood. County Coroner Duncan B Hubbard was called and after viewing the body and making an investigation announced that the shooting was accidental and an autopsy will not be necessary. The body was turned over to William Will, a mortician of New Haven. Funeral arrangements have not been made. The deceased man is a life-long resident of Macomb county. He was born near Ray Center October 9 1888, and has resided there ever since. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Lydia Reiter; three daughters; two sons; three sisters and two brothers. The children are: William Reiter, 17, Hilda 15; Edward 13; Frances 11; Edith 6 years old all at home. Mrs. Arthur Bauerman, Mrs. Harry Coats, sisters and Robert and David Reiter, brothers, all of Richmond also survive.

The following is an excerpt from an announcement by the Kansas State Historical Society: As genealogists, we have a special obligation to our descendents to leave them information about what it was like to live in these historic times.
