The pastors of this church recorded as much info as they could... many records give the village and province where an individual was born or came from, also on many death records parents/sibling relationships are given which can help piece families together. The auction, as well as our other meetings are held in the auditorium in the basement of the Mount Clemens Library. Hi all, It's nice to be on top of current genealogical developments from the perspective of various points of the country. I've just added a genealogy newsfeed to Obituary Central http://www.obitcentral.com that can be access directly at http://www.obitcentral.com/obitsearch/gen_news.htm The newsfeed updates daily and is quite interesting reading. I've already picked up some leads from an article about a historical society. Hope this helps. Thank you Deborah, for the link to the on-line Centennial History. Will attempt to download early in the AM, as I still deal with an dial-up connection. The name Zion Evangelical Church now rings a bell, but the name "New St." is totally unfamiliar to me. Was the church moved or the street renamed? About when did it cease to be a Lutheran church? -- Nancy M. Clay Meyers, Lorain OH

A short history of the Zion Evangelical Church, know known as the Zion United Church of Christ, may be found in the Centennial History of Mount Clemens, chapter 7, beginning on p.115. This book is available online from the Mount Clemens Public Library home page at: http://offserv.libcoop.net/mtc/centhist.htm However, the download is VERY SLOW if you are using a dial-up connection to the 'net. If you are on cable modem or other high-speed access, it works fine. To my knowledge, the church does not currently have a web site, but here is the contact information: ZION UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 586-463-0069 68 NEW STREET, MOUNT CLEMENS MI 48043 Mount Clemens Public Library holds microfilm copies of original handwritten records in German held by Zion United Church of Christ (formerly Zion Evangelical Church), Mount Clemens, Michigan. The films include the constitution, church council minutes, birth records 1862-1904, marriages 1862-1904 and deaths 1864-1891. These films are not available for interlibrary loan; they must be searched on site. Further, these are handwritten records IN GERMAN, so a facility with the language and old German script is necessary to use them. The online index at http://macomb.mcntv.com/deathrecords/ (put in Sky, Anthony between Nov 1946 and Dec 1946) says that Macomb County does have his death certificate on file. I've written Macomb County and they said that they had no such record. Suggestions and/or help are appreciated. Thank you.

I've found a marriage record for Anthony Sky which lists his parents as Frank Skrzypkowski and Martha Hoga. I've found Frank/Martha in the 1900 and 1910 census including their child, Anthony (although at least one census taker didn't know what he was doing... Anthony is 2 months old on the 1900 census yet was also listed as born in May 1899 on the same line???). I've not been able to obtain Anthony's death record. Macomb Co.'s online index says they have it, but the County Clerk says they do not.
Fellow Listers, Does anyone know if there is a printed church history from the Evangelical German Lutheran Church. My maternal grandmother attended there, the German services only, from 1920 until 1953. My Mother was confirmed there. Do not recall the name of the street but it was on the same street as a Catholic and a Baptist Church. I am also looking for the descendants of a William RINKLIEN and also Franz/Frank RIECK, both of Mt. Clemens. -- Nancy M. Clay Meyers, Lorain OH

As a teen, I worked for a short time at the Mt. Clemens Pottery. My father had worked there in 1934 & my mother in 1932. There was a small luncheonette across the street from the Pottery in 1949, run by a Peg Gustaufson who was a single parent of 3 daughters. One daughter, called "Tootie" about 15 at that time, had a wonderful singing voice. My mother had known the family since 1942. Lost track of these people about 1956 & would like to find some members of this family. BTW, what was the fate of that old Pottery? Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
