    2. Just a word about Kevin's email. I have visited Andersonville and everyone there were very helpful. It's quite an experience. I found and photographed the grave of my GG Uncle Kenneth McKay who enlisted in Co. A, 10th Michigan Infantry at Memphis, MI. He was captured at Buzzard's Roost, GA 25 Apr 1864 and died of diarrhea on 6 Sep 1864. He was b.12 Feb 1832 on PEI. His father was Donald McKay who d. 19 Aug 1883 Richmond, Macomb, MI. At http://users.aol.com/dlharvey/10thinf.htm. The excerpt about Kenneth’s last action reads: “At Buzzards Roose, Feb. 25th, the Confederates were found strongly fortified, and the Tenth was pushed upon the confederate works, meeting a storm of grape and canister, causing a loss of 13 killed, 35 wounded and 17 missing, for a total loss of 65 men.” Anyone with info of their families in Co. A, or Co. G (where he was assigned at his capture) or any group photos would be appreciated. Ty Curtis

    3. I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 1376 prisoners on record from the state of Michigan and the almost 800 known from Michigan who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. 2. BHC ListServ
    3. For those of you who planned to attend the 14-18 July 2002 International Roots Conference in Dearborn, Michigan, you should know that the conference was abruptly cancelled. The conference promoters are claiming they do not have any funds to reimburse the people who prepaid to attend. For full details you can read Dick Eastman's newsletter at http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/eastman/5986.asp. There is a follow-up story at http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/eastman/5991.asp. A specific online support group has been started for people who were harmed by the cancellation of this conference. Details can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/irc-victims/. This is one of those rare occasions where my proclivity to procrastinate actually saved me. I did not pre-register. JP John P. 1. [MiMacomb] Macomb Co Gen. Group Indexing Sessions
    2. Ann Faulkner
    3. The Macomb County Genealogy Group will continue to meet during the summer for informal work sessions on Fridays: June 28; July 12; August 9 and 23rd from 1:00-3:00 o'clock in the auditorium of the Mount Clemens Library. On July 26th there will be a potluck lunch at 12 noon. We have no dues and everyone is welcome. In September we will resume our regular twice a month schedule with a speaker or planned program at one meeting and a work-indexing session at the other. There are two current group projects. One is the indexing of Circuit Court Journals starting in 1848. These include references to civil and criminal cases; divorces, naturalizations, pension applications, coroner's inquests, and probate disputes. Although the information in these volumes are only brief summations, they will lead you to case files or other volumes for more detailed information. The other project involves the indexing of the Miller Scrapbooks which are full of births, marriages, deaths and other information concerning many Mount Clemens area families. All indexing projects as they progress will be available on the library website. Also working independently, are individuals working from microfilm to index obituaries from the older newspapers, and to index probate case files which have been donated to the Library by Probate Court. If you live in this area, I hope that you will join us to help make Macomb County records accessible to others. And those of you living in other areas, I would like to encourage you to work on projects where you live to make those records available to the rest of us. If you have any questions, you can contact me at anytime. Ann

    1. [MiMacomb] July Conference in Dearborn cancelled
    2. Ann Faulkner
    3. Special Edition of Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter June 26, 2002 Please feel free to forward copies of this newsletter to other genealogists. ========================================================== The following is a "special edition" of my weekly newsletter. A breaking news event has major financial impact to hundreds of genealogists. I elected to not wait until next week's newsletter to distribute the following article. - Dick Eastman ============================================================== - International Roots Conference Is Canceled, Would-be Attendees Lose Money The International Roots Conference has been canceled. If you registered in advance, you need to read the following information. In the June 5 edition of this newsletter, I wrote about the International Roots Conference to be held in Dearborn, Michigan on July 14 through 18, 2002. I wrote that conference organizers Marilyn R. Natchez and Steve Rosman, operating under the business name of "My Conference Planners, LLC," were planning a big conference. While I didn't mention any expected numbers of attendees in that article, the conference Web site advised that 2,000 people were expected to attend this conference. All of that came crashing down in the past few days. Last Friday, only three weeks before the scheduled start of the conference, My Conference Planners, LLC ceased operations and declared bankruptcy. The company's Web site was shut down on Tuesday, June 25. Would-be conference attendees who paid in advance for tickets are now receiving letters from a law firm advising that the conference has been canceled. Reportedly, all the money paid in advance is gone; so, creditors are advised to not contact anyone for refunds. In other words, those who paid money in advance are ***** (insert your own expletive here). Most would-be attendees paid $200 to $300 each, depending upon the luncheons, dinners and workshops selected. The owners of My Conference Planners, LLC have not released any numbers. However, if only 500 people paid in advance, the amount in question would be $100,000 to $150,000. What happened? I have no idea. Marilyn R. Natchez and Steve Rosman have not yet returned my phone call and e-mails. The lawyer handling this bankruptcy case is David Miller of the law firm Erman, Teicher, Miller, Zucker & Freedman, PC, located at: 100 Galleria Officentre Ste 333 Southfield, MI 48034-8429 Phone: (248) 827-4100 Fax: (248) 827-4106 Attorney David Miller can be reached at: dmiller@ermanteicher.com Those who feel that they have been "ripped off" might want to contact the office of Jennifer M. Granholm, the Attorney General for the State of Michigan. The Attorney General's office has an online Web site for those who wish to file consumer complaints, at: http://www.ag.state.mi.us/cp/complaint/cp_complaint_page.htm If you do file a complaint, you will be asked for the company's name and address. It is: MY CONFERENCE PLANNERS, LLC 24901 Northwestern Highway, Suite 313-B Southfield, Michigan 48075-2207 (248) 415-0159 I suspect you will be reading more about this story in future weeks.
