The church was likely Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church which stands just a little north of the Van Dyke and Hall Road (M-59) intersection. It is still in existence today. Unfortunately the earlist books no longer exist. Records survive from about 1912 forward. Just write the church with your brief questions and perhaps a small donation. I'm not sure if the same person is reading the records as when I wrote my request. (They do not allow you to look at the books yourself due to their condition.) Directing your letter to the church office will get it in the correct spot (rather than the school office). The address is: Trinity Lutheran Church 45160 Van Dyke Utica MI 48317-5578

The pastor at that time was Thomas Wilson. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I might be able to get some info from them--if they are no longer in existence, possibly another church took over their congregation and might still have the records? Amy help appreciated..

If not, as an outsider looking in, I have a couple of suggestions... First of all, I would go to the newspapers in the towns that are prominent to your search and see if they will do an article. Even maybe one of the larger Detroit papers. Also, did you post anything on the Chubb message board? Another little trick... on acid free paper with an acid free pen (can find those at Walmart in sewing dept or any scrapbooking store) and write a very short note--really to the point. While the county clerk is not looking stick it in with the mother's death certificate in Macomb (not Lansing). Something else that has helped was visiting the old home and talking to the new owners. Let them know you are trying to find these people. Write your information down on paper and a little about who you are looking for (in case the people move and the new owners can know what you are doing as well). You never know when (or if) someone will go there. Lo! ng shots, but it worked for me. Good luck!!
