Did you happen to see if there was a son that had passed away? His name was William Henry Newman born about 1852 in New Jersey as well. James and Mahala also had 6 daughters and I know they are hard to trace but just in case if you wouldn't mind another challenge. The daughters are in order of birth, Phebe J 1847 NJ; Ellen C 1848 NJ; Hannah O 1849 NJ; Margaret E 1854 Mich; Frances M 1856 Mich; Martha A 1858 Mich. Thanks in advance. There was only 1 Phebe listed in the 1870 census for Lapeer Co and she was married to a John Sullivan. They had 1 boy at the time. His name was John born about 1867. They were found again in the 1880 census for the same county and they had 2 more boys, Floyd 1873 and Hugh born 1875. Maybe they will list her parents in the death index to find out who they were. This was the only girl I found of the Newman girls. Linda
