    1. Re: [MIMACOMB] Macomb Co Obituary Index Problems
    2. I agree that the volunteers deserve a big thank you. They have made it much easier to find those elusive individuals. I wouldn't want them to put in all these hours just to find that many of them were duplicates and didn't have to be entered. Correcting the problem would mean less work for them and easier searching for us. I just wanted to draw attention to the problem. Thanks, Loraine DiCerbo -----Original Message----- From: afaulkner4847@wideopenwest.com To: MIMACOMB-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 18 Oct 2006 10:35 PM Subject: [MIMACOMB] Macomb Co Obituary Index Problems At the bottom of the obituary page, it states that the database is maintained by Ann Faulkner and the Mount Clemens Public Library. I am going to request that the Library link my email address to my name, and if anyone finds any duplicates or other problems, please email me directly and I will try and take care of the problem. However, the corrections will not show up until the server is updated. There are many sources of error from the original indexing, data entry & importing from Excel into Access. We do have a checklist of papers that have been indexed. At times a paper has been reindexed because it was found that some obituaries were missing. Double checking the system is easier said than done, as you must go into Access, filter an individual surname, and then do a sort on the given name, and even then the dates are not sequential. 2. I'm not sure who this message should be addressed to, but it seems to me that many of the volunteers have been been doing extra work for no reason. There are a bunch of duplicate entries in the database. I put in a less common one of my surnames, Keidel, and out of 16 responses, four were duplicates: Keidel William Blay 84 DML 1961 MAY 29 Keidel William Blay 84 DML 1961 MAY 29 Keidel Earl F. Hart/Goldenbogen 61 MD 1969 MAY 21 Keidel Earl F Goldenbogen 61 MD 1969 MAY 21 Keidel Henry L. Blay/Hart b 1880 DML 1959 MAY 11 Keidel Henry L Blay/Hart 78 DML 1959 MAY 11 Keidel Jane 86 DL 1932 OCT 12 Keidel Jane 86 DL 1932 OCT 13 (could not find an obituary listed in the paper on this date) You may want to have your volunteers double-check the system, If an unusual name like Keidel can have four duplicates, what happens when a person enters a more common surname? a name like Miller or Smith can pull hundreds of records, and not only do we have to sort through them because it doesn't allow you to put in a first name with it (it always comes up as "No records returned. Try alternate spelling."), but we also have to sort through duplicate entries. It takes away the efficiency of trying to do a quick computer lookup. Please pass this message on to those in charge of the computerized database. I'm sure I speak for many who like to use your index, but find it hard to wade through so many results at times. His son is a steel factory owner. My grandmother whose first name is Eva (we don't sure about her name) was born in Suwalki, Konigsberg or Berlin like 1874s and went to Turkey with his husband. Any information can be related to your family?

CHARLES HENRY Lincoln - International Genealogical Index / NA Gender: Male Death: 12 JAN 1908 A Yahoo search for the cemetery's address wasn't successful. On the other hand, at Findagrave.com there is a photo of the cemetery entrance sign and a map showing the cemetery location. Both readings for Willow Grove give the date for Charles H as 1833-1909. According to the plat by Bernard Pearl, he is buried in Section A, lot 002, 6W. I have only been out there a couple of times so really can't give you directions, but A appears to be shaped like a teardrop and lot 2 is at the narrow end right next to the driveway. Hopefully this will help you find it, since the cemetery is pretty large. I also have a letter from him at the Library and have been trying to locate further information on Charles H. I do not think that he died here in Macomb Co. I checked the death records all the way from 1907 up to about 1932. Also, there is no probate. He has some conflicting data and if you could look at the stone it would be great. I just realized I have his email, so will send him a cc of this message.
