She has also been a HUGE help for me ...... keep us posted Ann Wright Rob & Pat Hendrickson <rehpjh68@hotmail.com> wrote: I talked with Ann yesterday. She plans to ask her friend Karen Harris to post an update on her condition so we will all know how to pray for her. Keep an eye out for emails from Karen. Ann is a good friend to many of us family historians - I couldn't have published my two books without her assistance. There's only one book in German, and that's from 1872 until about 1930. Pasted into the front of that book is a section of records from 1866 until 1871, 7 pages worth. Those records date from before the signing of the Lutheran charter. You wouldn't need to zerox the books to translate --- I put them on CD. (Now to get the newsletters on CD!) Most of the book I can read, like the birth and death entries. There are a couple sections however --- like the early church history -- that are all in German. There is also a year's worth of newsletters that are in German. Those I have wanted to find help with. Besides the record book are all of the old minutes books, like Voter's Meetings, LLA, Ladies' Aid, Walther League, and I think there is even a Circuit book. I don't know if all of those books were involved with the request. My email is billandtina41@netzero.net if you need it. Just got some very sad news while typing this and may be rather busy for the next few days. Tina

The reason I'm asking is that I have been approached by the church to translate the old German records since the number of people who are able to read the old script is dwindeling. I hesitated to take on another large translation project as I was under the impression that there are several ledgers and that it would take a long time to xerox the pages. Now, from what I hear there is only one book, is this correct? Seems to me that there should be several volumes. I feel like you, someone needs to preserve these records. I copied the St James records in Casco and I'm in the process of translating them because the pastor couldn't read the old script and people would visit the church and rummage through the fragile ledgers. And my worst fears came true when I discovered that one of the very first ledgers is missing. So if you have problems deciphering the German, please make a scan of the entry and I'll translate it for you. Ursula

I did it as a member of our Historical Committee in order to make sure we had copies in case (God forbid) anything happened to the books. When I found out that St. John in Fraser's books were AWOL it sped me up a bit on the project. The head of our committee has a copy at home, I have one stashed, and there is a copy at church for the secretary. One copy will be sent to Concordia Historical Institue as well, when I have my book of pastor info ready. I'm going to send you the pictures from the book as I find stuff. I should be getting ready for work, but I've been looking at the book instead. Tina

I took digital pictures of both our books so that there were copies in case anything ever happened to the originals. The first book runs from 1872-1947, with records from 1866-1871 pasted in the front. I can read enough German to read most of the records. I have the most problem with the 1866-1871 batch because of the handwriting, but I inherited a German handwriting book from 1901 that helps. Tina

    2. MiPolonia
    3. While these indexes have been online at the MI Archives for some time- they are easier to search via World Vital Records (free) http://www.worldvitalrecords.com/search.aspx "A group of volunteers at the Archives of Michigan put together the indexes for the naturalization records of 29 counties in Michigan. Each index was transcribed from a hand-written index, in its original form. Misspellings and variations in names may be present, although the volunteers attempted to include variations of names that appear in the indexes. Naturalization records may provide important information in helping an individual locate the country of origin of an ancestor." There are 29 counties- no Oakland or Wayne Co. (nutz!) John Friday b. May 1858 in MI operated a furniture store on South Main Street in Lenox [Richmond] for many years. I have a photo of it somewhere in my archives. He was married to Martha ? b. June 1866 in Michigan. According to the 1900 census they had the following children: Louisa, William, Barnhard and Alfred. There may have been others born later. John Friday was the son of Jacob [b. 1823] and Fredericke [b. 1824] [Freitag] Friday. On the 1860 census, Jacob Friday appears living in Chesterfield, Macomb Co., MI [New Baltimore P.O.]. Since their 2 oldest children, William [b. 1857] and John [b. 1858] are born in Michigan, it seems that the couple may have gotten married in the U.S. rather than in Germany.
