Hi George, You might try looking in St Clair county , as well as Macomb County. Lots of the people in these areas came to St. Clair first and then moved around. There is a really good site to check on German immigrants. http://www.geocities.com/ursulaba/ Good Luck and happy hunting, Elly
Hello Listers, I am looking for my ancestors who may have settled in Michigan, possibly in Macomb County in or around 1911-18. They may be what are called Germans from Russia and came from the old Ukraine area called Volhynia. The surname is PALNAU. All help will be appreciated. Lois Whitehead (nee Palnau)

Surnames: Thomas, Donnenworth, Baker, Beeker/Bueker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IGB.2ACI/168 Message Board Post: I am searching for family members of ggrandfather, John Thomas, born August 17, 1848 in Mt. Clemens. I'm not sure if his given name was John or Napoleon, however, he was commonly known as John. When he was about 12 years old, he moved to Saginaw County. He married a Josephine Baker in 1874, and later, possibly a Mary Donnenworth. His children include: Robert, Edmond, William A.(Archie?),Napoleon, Nellie, and Minnie. He died in 1936 in Taymouth Township, Saginaw County. I do not know if he had any brothers or sisters, or even what his parents' names were. This is where my brick wall begins. Are there birth records available for these early years? Do any of these names sound familiar? (Napoleon and Robert keep popping up.) If anyone can provide any information or leads, I would be forever grateful. Thanks. Karin
Don and everyone, The good news is that if a virus was attached to an e-mail sent to a Rootsweb mailing list, it won't go to the list. Rootsweb doesn't accept attachments. At the Toledo Public Library I used a book with this citation: EARLY LAND TRANSFERS DETROIT AND WAYNE COUNTY, MICHIGAN Volumes A, B, C 1703-1796 MICHIGAN WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION VITAL RECORDS PROJECT Michigan State Library and Daughters of the American Revolution Louisa St. Clair Chapter, Sponsors 1936 In it on page 190 I found this reference: STEDMAN, John pur. fr. David Meldrum and Wm. Bruce, July 18, 1767, house, lot and appurtenances, within the fortifications between St. Ann Street and St. Lewis Street, bounded on the W.S.W by a street without a name. Vol. A, pg 12. My question is this: Who is this David Meldrum who owned a house and lot in Detroit in 1767, and how does he relate to the George Meldrum who is a partner in Meldrum and Park later? or for that matter to George's son David who was a Macomb county landowner. Does anyone know?

Mt Clemens Monitor, Oct. 14, 1904 Davis. Rev. Elijah W. Howe, who was spoken of in the Monitor last week as being seriously ill, passed away last Saturday morning, in the 82d year of his age. A double affliction to the family was brought on by the sudden sickness and death of his wife, who was taken ill at the supper table Friday evening and survived only three days, passing away on Monday evening. Mr. Howe's funeral was to have been held on Tuesday, but was postponed and a double funeral held on Wednesday, and they were laid to rest in one grave in the Davis cemetery. They were both natives of New York, but came to this state in early childhood, and were therefore among the early pioneers of this town. Her name was Jane Wetley, and they were married in 1846, having lived a happy life together for more than 58 years. They both joined the M.E. church soon after their marriage and have been very active members until a few years ago when illness prevented them from active church work. Mr. Howe was licensed to preach in 1857, and had always been a great help to the church in his ministerial services. They leave two daughters, Mrs. Jay Warren, of Olivet and Mrs. Spicer Warren of Capac, and eleven grandchildren, who have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. Thus the pioneers are fast passing away, but few being left in this vicinity. Mt Clemens Monitor, Oct. 21 1904 Ottis Warren, of New York, grandson of Rev. and Mrs. E. W. Howe, who were buried last week, arrived here on Monday and with two daughters, Mr.s J. M. Warren, of Olivet, and Mrs. L.P. Warren of Capac, are settling the affairs of the deceased.

The genealogy room at Mount Clemens Public Library will reopen on Friday, January 25, at 9:30 a.m. We won't have all of our new furniture and equipment in place for another 4 weeks, but the construction is done, the dust is cleaned up, and the materials are back on the shelf, so we're open for business as of tomorrow morning. Thank you all for your patience during our transformation! Debbie Larsen Mount Clemens Public Library http://www.libcoop.net/mountclemens

This information originated from John DuLong of the FCHSM. Report from the Research Committee: Senate Bill 794 passed. It's now time for us to contact our representative in the house. This bill was the one changing birth record access from 110 years to 100 years. It would be helpful if the genealogical community would contact their representatives in the house and ask that it be placed on the committee agenda and scheduled for a vote. We need this to be done now as many of our friends in the Legislature will not be there next year due to term limits.
Have you ever found any information about a Josette Dube who married Julian Jacques in Cap St. Ignace, Montmagny County, Quebec and then moved to Mt. Clemens with their children who I think were born either in Canada or in Vermont? They came to Mt. Clemens before 1848. Josette was older than Julian by about 4 years and died in Mt. Clemens but I don't have her death date and information yet. They attended St. Peters.
