To Debbie Larsen, Thank you, Debbie, for the current e-mail address for the county clerk's office; I suspect my bookmark for the county website needs to be updated, which I hadn't thought of as the source for the problem. Thanks again. Mel Lader
Mount Clemens Public Library is pleased to announce a new database, entitled World War I Service Records for Macomb County, Michigan. This database contains the service records for 1,066 men from Macomb County who served in the military during World War I. The service records were compiled by the Macomb County War Board in 1920. This data set should serve as a valuable resource for local historians and genealogists alike. Not all records were completed, but information requested included name, address, birth date and place, names of parents, occupation, military ranks, units, battles, wounds, awards and citations, and family data. The database may be searched here: http://offserv.libcoop.net/mtc/wwirecords.asp It is also available from the Mount Clemens Public Library home page. Happy hunting! I've just sent an email message to the Macomb County Clerk's office, addressed as on the website: [email protected] The mail came back each time I sent it, stating it was undeliverable and no mailbox found. Does anyone have the correct address if it has changed? Thanks. Mel
I'm trying to find the burial locations for the following: Joseph LEDUC (LADUKE), born 9/28/1799 in Canada, died abt. 1890 in Warren Twp., Macomb Co. and his wife: Marie Eulalie CHICOINE Leduc (LaDuke), born 1/19/1805 in Canada, died c. 1839-1850, probably in Macomb Co. also If anyone has any cemetery indices in which they might be listed, I would be most grateful. Thanks, Mel Lader Alexandria, VA
My Tincknell ancesters are first enumerated in the 1870 census in Macomb County, and all sources state that they immigrated from England in that year. I have been searching ships passenger records for 1870 for New York as the assumed port of entry, since family history has it that they brought with them another younger relative whom they dropped off in upstate New York on their way west. Thus far, I have had no success. Could any list members suggest a different port of entry? Did other immigrants arrive through a Canadian port, for example? Any suggestions on possible migration routes would be most appreciated. Thanks, Mel
Dear Listers, Some time ago on this list there was an inquiry and discussion about the Wayne County Infirmary, popularly known as Eloise. For those of you who have an interest in this topic, there is a new book just out from Arcadia Publishing entitled ELOISE: POORHOUSE, FARM, ASYLUM AND HOSPITAL 1839-1984, by Patricia Ibbotson. This book is part of the publisher's popular Images of America series and contains many photographs. If you are in the Detroit metropolitan area, you will probably be able to find it at many of the local libraries. Mount Clemens Public Library has purchased a copy. If you are not in the area, purchase information can be found on the Arcadia web site at this address: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/bin/detail.asp?id=38889 Happy hunting! Dear Listers, Maggie Fallone was nice enough to post the article about Abraham Martin--showing some of his Macomb Co descendants--on the USGenweb site at: http://www.online-isp.com/~maggie/macomb/ Scroll down to Macomb Co Family Trees and you'll find it there under Martin. It's also linked with Macomb Co Surnames under Martin. It's a very interesting article. Hope you like it. Maggie did a great job. Lorelei Maison Rockwell

Researchers can find my most recent project in booklet form at the Mt Clemens and St Clair Shores Public Libraries: The DEFER Family of Pleigne Switzerland and Macomb and Wayne Counties MI. This booklet contains copies of original documents relating to Francois Urs DEFER and Pierre BEINDIT which will be of interest to the many local researchers, as well as charts and maps. The charts identify allied families from about 1745-1880. 19th Century French-Swiss immigrants married easily into the long established French-Canadian community in Macomb, St Clair and Wayne Counties. Exhibit #13 contains a 7 generation descendant chart which will enable researchers to find related surnames. Swiss ancestors are also identified. The Introduction mentions important websites with associated Swiss information, especially important for identifying other emigrants from the Jura. Researchers may also want use a related work available at both Libraries: 19th CENTURY EMIGRATION -- MICHIGAN CONNECTIONS. Wishing you happy hunting, Lorelei Maison Rockwell

I missed the beginning of this discussion. Just want to be sure it's on record that Berthiaume is a French-Canadian name recorded in both Denissen and Jette. Lorelei
Still looking for information on my ancestors - Ernst MARQUARDT - b. 1856 - ! Married Louise Siewert at Emanuel German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 17th and Pine Sts with Rev. Moll officiating. ! Pummern (Pommern) was a former duchy usually known as Pomerania, this small estate is now divided between East Germany and Poland. It was Protestant in the earlier years. ! Came to the U.S. at age 8 in 1864 with his mother, brothers and sister. His father, Henry Marquardt, preceded the family in 1863, coming from Germany to Detroit. He attended the Germany Catholic School for four years where his father was a teacher. At age 12, he worked at a sawmill. He married Louise at age 20 and had a job as freight hauler. He left that job to go to the 'car shops' at $.90 a day. His wife prompted him to take a correspondence course to become a stationary engineer and while a night engineer for the Detroit Bridge and Iron Works, began studying for the police examination. ! He became a citizen of the U.S. on May 1, 1880. Louise SIEWERT/SIEBERT wife of Ernst - b. 1856 - Germany Carrie Flora SCHNOOR - b. 1868 in New Baltimore - daughter of Max Christian SCHNOOR and Doris Louise KLEINFELDT. Carrie married Gilbert Hatheway in 1894 - son of and divorced him in Oct 1899. Have NO information on what happened to Gilbert once the couple separated! Gilbert was the son of Rufus and Anna (SAGE) Hatheway. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com
Recently I translated an article about the early French-Canadian pioneer Abraham Martin [Ce personage obscure de l'histoire donne malgré tout son nom aux Plaines et à la côte d'Abraham, This insignificant historical person nevertheless gave his name to the Plains of Abraham and Abraham's Coast] by Yolande St-Arneault which appeared in Échos génealogiques, publication of the Société de Généalogie des Laurentides, Vol XVII, No 1, Spring 2001. Many Macomb County and Detroit area residents can trace their ancestry back to Abraham Martin. I would be glad to share it via e-mail. Lorelei Maison Rockwell [email protected]
