Does anyone know if death records for the Catholic church are by married name or maiden name. I am talking about the ones from St Peter that are mostly in French. Kayleen Pawloski:)

Looks like you might have found your "Flats". Here's another local Flats.... My Mom grew up along Romeo Plank Rd in Clinton Twp and the low area by the Clinton River and its associated branches/creeks (cricks as Mom called them) was referred to as "The Flats". You didn't plant on the flats because it flooded out just about every year. (Still does but now they're building on them.) Her Dad's family held a family picnic on the flats just about every year when she was growing up.
This sounds like the area I was asking about. An old family story says that when Gr. Grandma LAPONSA was a teenager her mother sent her across to an island to get her Dad from a tavern (or something of the sort) while her mother waited on the other side with a lantern. This would have been about 1900. No one really knew where they were from. They only knew "The Flats," and thought somewhere around New Baltimore. Do you know if the book you referred to would be available at a library?
Here are a couple of websites about the Flats. http://www.msen.com/~pwmeek/flats/flats.html http://www.clickondetroit.com/sponsors/homelife/ http://detnews.com/history/tashmoo/tashmoo.htm http://www.michiganlights.com/grassyislandnchannelrangelh.htm http://www.msen.com/~pwmeek/flats/ http://www.midwestconnection.com/Harbors/StClairFlatsHB.htm There are many more. Just go to the search engine Google and type in "St. Clair Flats" with the quotes and it will come up with a lot of information. The last link I gave has a map that shows the islands and the channels Sincerely, Pat > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > > Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2002 9:40 PM > > To: [email protected] > > Subject: [MiMacomb] The Flats > > > > > > Where was the area known as "The Flats" ? > > > > > > ==== MIMACOMB Mailing List ==== > > Visit the Macomb County, MI GenWeb site! ~~New Address~~ > > http://www.online-isp.com/~maggie/macomb/ ~~Update Your Bookmarks~~ > > > > ============================== > > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy > > records, go to: > > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > > > > > > > > > ==== MIMACOMB Mailing List ==== > If you have problems with the mailing list, > contact the listowner, Mary Daily mailto:[email protected] > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >
I'm sure a local person can respond to this question better than I can, but since no one's yet come forward. . . I have a great 1993 self-published book by Robert B Coulter, 'Commodore Mushrat' called: A KID ON THE FLATS. His phone number was then: 810-226-7637. His explanation-- hopefully I'll get it right, for the Flats was that it referred to St Clair Flats, a part of the Harsen's Island community. Harsens Island is at the north end of Lake St Clair between Fair Haven and Algonac. Here's what he says: "Harsens Island is shaped somewhat like a lower molar, with the large area at the top [north] and with 2 root-like series of islands extending to the south, separated by two large bays. The bays are named Little Muscamoot and [naturally] Big Muscamoot, and the two strings of islands bordering them are collectively known as the St Clair Flats. "Each string of islands forming the Flats follows a deep river channel. The river on the west is known as the Middle Channel and the river to the east...is the South Channel of the St Clair River.. . ." He says much more. Other responses identifying this location are encouraged! As a collector of old postcards, I've found "The Flats" mentioned many times in connection with the old Tashmoo Park on Harsen's Island. Have I got it right? Gary, A Michigander has already found me and my family in the 1930 census. However I still don't know the boundaries of Baseline, Michigan. We lived at 74 Loretta Ave. If you could find that Information for me, I would appreciate it. We lived near 11-Mile Road and that has me puzzled, as Eight Mile was called Baseline Road. I live about 30 miles from the National Archives and Records Administration building at the Federal Center in Lakewood, Colorado. It may be a few weeks before I get back there. It would be helpful if you have a street address for your family in Baseline. I won't charge you for anything more than the cost of the printouts and the postage. Please e-mail me directly.
