    3. There is a book called "Collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin," edited by Reuben Gold Thwaites, LL.D. Volume XIX contains the Mackinac Register of Baptisms and Interments - 1695-1821. This book is recorded on a CD called "Mackinac Register - 1695-1888." I obtained my copy of the CD from Ste. Anne's Church, P.O. Box 537, Mackinac Island, MI 49757. I found these entries in the book which may be pertinent here. "June 15, 1794, I, the undersigned, Baptized Antoine and marie Magdelaine, natural children of a woman savage of the nation of the Sotteurs and of Antoine Soud, a Canadian. The boy is two and a half years old and the girl twenty three days. The godfather of antoine was phillipe Soud dit martin; and the godmother marie felicite Carignan. The godfather of Marie Magdelaine was jean Baptiste Laborde; [and the godmother Marguerite Chevalier], only one of whom signed; the others being unable to write, made their usual mark in testimony thereof. Le Deu, apostolic missionary Marie Felicite Carignan; Phillipe Soud + his mark; J. Bapt. Bertrand + his mark; Marguerite Chevalier + her mark." I was true to the entry as it appears in the book. Capitalization is as you see it above. The word "dit" is roughly translated as "also known as," but it is not the same as the English word "alias." This entry is listed in the Index of the book under "Martin, Antoine, dit Soud . . . ." There was a contemporary named Adhemar St. Martin who was very prominent in the community. Gabriel Richard, himself, appears to have been confused by this in making two other entries later on. There was no entry that I could construe to represent Susan Pinkealin. There are two entries in the name of Catherine Chenier Kimiouenan. Because of the problems of communicating and spelling names, this may be "Kimmiono," but I am only speculating. I have no knowledge of this. The entries are as follows. "August 15, 1787, by us the undersigned priest, was baptized Marie, four and a half years old, legitimate daughter of Amable Chevalier, a savage of the Outaouais nation, and of Catherine kimiouenan of the same nation. The godfather was monsieur Ainse; and the godmother madame jean baptiste Barthe, who declared that she could not sign her name, as did also the father. Payet, Missionary priest" "September 1, 1789, in the afternoon, by the undersigned notary, was privately baptized Marie Louise, daughter of Amable Chevalier, a Savage, and of Catherine Chenier, another savage, both baptized. The child is about 7 months old. L. Carignan" I have no idea as to how these entries may be useful, but there is something here for use in pursuing the matter further. Good luck.
