This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Belanger,Boucha,Tebo,Dumas,Me-saw-tego or Santigo etc. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HGB.2ACI/475 Message Board Post: I just wanted to bring something to everyones attention who may be researching Chief Joesph " Santigo" Mesawtego who was a well known Chief in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. When I paid a visit to the Les Cheneaux Historical Museum which is located in Cedarville,Michigan I was sold a picture of what I was led to believe by the director of the Museum was a picture of this Chief Santigo.I also have a page of the 1941 issue of the Les Cheneau Breezes newspaper where it shows that same picture. The article states that it is actually a picture of a Antoine Santigo and his wife.So I guess it's researcher beware.
Here is an entry in the Mackinac CD that may interest some of you. August 8, 1787, by us the undersigned priest, was baptized conditionally, Paul, about eleven years old, the natural son of Joseph Bouche' and of a savage mother. The godfather was Sieur Paul Tenier; and the godmother Madame Carignan who signed with us. Payet, missionary priest.
