Jean, I have also found this name "Roe" spelled: Rocque, Rock, Rowe, and Rorke. There was a Joseph Roe (Rocque) who was appointed indian interperter with the Souix in 1786 for the British Indian department . Joseph Roe also appeared in Vermillion in 1786. All this information is in the Michigan Historical Society and Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society records from Ancestry. Clutching the same straws, but its worth the try!
