I purchased one last summer. They had just reprinted the book. The Chief's sister, Elizabeth Lozon, was mother to my Great, Great, Grandmother, Christine Lozon Fountain. There's a museum in St. Ignace called Fort Du Baude (sp?) It's in the basement of a gift shop on the main street. There's an interesting exhibit of the settlement and artifacts belonging to Elizabeth. She was a medicine woman. There are also many pictures of family members although they are not identified. I also met a teenage granddaughter of the Lozon's while visiting. She told me her Grandmother ( I can't recall her name) was still living (age 95). She also said her Grandmother was the former owner of the Lozon's Motel until she was no longer able to manage. This young lady was working in the museum gift shop in the same building as the chamber of commerce. Pam

As far as the Lozons go whatever information I gave you before was all I had.Since I no longer live in Michigan my resources are limited.A good place to contact and a excellent person to talk to would be the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Soo.Kim Gravelle is the tribal specialist at that office and her phone number is (906) 632-6809 ext. 3133 She was a great help.In fact she's the one who found and sent vital records, census records etc. to me.She also gave me lots of sources which were a BIG BIG help too.Maybe she can be of the same help to you.Just as long as you can provide her with dates, names, and any other general information you have on whomever you are trying to search she'll do her best to help. She told me once that she has/had no problem helping when someone is trying to help themselves. When I first contacted Kim and some of the other government agencies who handle Indian queries in the U.P. I got the cold shoulder everytime I mentioned what my maiden name was and couldn't figure out why.Come to find out one of my brothers had been very abusive with staff who worked in these offices which became a big turn off.It took me quite sometime before I gained their trust. Now everything is fine and whenever I contact any of those agnecies they're always happy to hear from me and are very helpful. You catch more bees with honey then you do with vinager. Anyhow give Kim a try and see how she can help.Since I can't do to much research myself I'm thinking about teaching people how to do indian research from my home. Sorry I can't be of anymore help then I already have. Respectfully, Cherie

    3. Hi Cherie, Since I am related to Chief Anse and you are, that should make us some kind of cousins, dont you think. Too many names for me to get involved with. I have read many of your e-mails on the MIMACKIN-L and enjoyed them. I still would like more information about Chief Anse, who was his wife, where did he come from and who were his parents. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks. All the birth, death, marriage, annunity paylists,Ottawas and Chippewas fieldnotes and the like were on file file at the Sault Saint Marie,Mi,Indian Affairs office..Kim Gravelle who's the tribal specialist for the Michigan tribes in the Soo is also a distant cousin from my father's side of the family and the one who sent me packets and packets of this imformation. It was like Christmas for me. We no longer reside in Michigan and have since moved to Southern California .We live in a triple wide home surrounded by eight orange trees and have mountains all around us.If you still recieve the Synder/Brown/LaBlanc family newsletter you'll see my article in the "LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO" where I tell about our adventure out here.Let me tell you it was quite an adventure at that. Take Care. Cherie Tebo-Eck My father Francis C.Tebo was his adopted name.According to my father's baptismal his name at birth was Francis Nolan Dumas. My father was killed when I was very young so I never had any knowledge of his Indian heritage and my mother hardly ever talked about her family. From the family stories I've heard there were some family problems and not to many of my mother's sibblings had to much to do with one another. So the only imformation I have is what I found on documents.

We've learned to close our house up during the day and open all the windows at night.Unlike Michigan summers the air here is drier, but very hot.We arrived out here the end of July first part of August of last year, and it was sure hot here then.We stayed with my husband's family when we first got here, cause we didn't have access to any housing and we swore we'd never do something that stupid again even if we had to live in a tent. The whole trip out here and the three and half months we had to stay with family was a trip from hell.We now live in our own place as of last November, cause my sis-in-law was becoming to involved in our life.Whenever my husband and I tried to have some privacy to talk she'd walk right in on us.She was always making hurtful comments to me when my husband wasn't around which was very stressful. She's a very controling and posessive person.I don't have one on one conversations with her nor do I answer the phone when she calls.I'm civil to her wh! en I see her which isn't very often but, when I do there's no love lost betweeen us. I told my husband I've had enough trouble with my own family and that he could deal with and handle his sister anyway he chose, cause I wasn't going to subject myself to anymore family nonsense or abuse. What's funny my mom-in-law is a real sweetheart and her and I get along fine.Maybe the sis-in-law should take some lessons on how to treat and deal with people from their mom. Well I guess I've bent you ears long and since it's midnight here I think I'll go lay down. Cherie Tebo Eck When I attended the 2002 Synder/LaBlanc family reunion it was the most fun I'd had at a family gathering in along time.I never laughed so much in my life. There was no family infighting or family politics.Everyone welcomed me with open arms.I'm sure you saw my letter in the newsletter, cause that's when I first heard from you.
