Carol and Marsi: Possibly he might also be a relative of Col. James MILLS, of Darke County, Ohio. Col James and his wife, Sarah REED, came from Sussex Co. NJ very early 1800's. Were first in Hamilton Co. Ohio, and then removed up to Darke Co. little bit later on. Related surnames to MILLS - REED, VANSICKLE/VAN SICKLE/SICKLEN/SICKLER etc. of Ontario, Canada. Their daughter, Sarah, married Abraham VanSICKLE and he was a loyalist too. Am sure that some of his and her relatives might have gone up to Canada at the time of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 with the British. Other MILLS families came very early on to the Northwest Territory 1788, when it opened up for settlement. But there were others who were there earlier, considered as "squatters" from KY, TN, and other early states. Pat cw Checked my files, too, I do not have a James Lewis, other than your query back in 2004.
I am searching to make a connection with the Joseph Mills and John Mills listed in the History of Darke Co, OH by Beers book. But records are becoming more scarce as I trudge on!
