    1. Re: [MILLS] Mills family of (modern) Montgomery Co., NC area.
    2. Hi again, The most of the settlers in early northeastern NC were from Virginia, and the land became available for them to settle on about 1668, I also read. Many Virginia Quakers removed to the Carolina Coast, as NC and SC were one Colony then. About 1715 or so Virginia became almost a hostile environment for Quakers, as NC did in 1768. As many had refused to defend Virginia. Central NC became a Quaker haven by the 1750s, as one Quaker, a "Mr. White" I think it was, traveled up the Pee Dee River from SC looking for places to set Quaker Settlements. The Pee Dee runs into modern Montgomery Co., NC, where it then becomes the Yadkin River. Some of the very early MM's became lost to time, as did their records. But for the most part, the Quaker folks left us some very nice records. I have not checked for the Mills family in those records, as my ability to get about has been slowed down some. Ken
