To all in the Mills list Mills Mountain is located in the Berkley Springs area of West Virginia off Rt. 522. .... This Mills was NOT related to the Washington County, MD / PA Mills line which Shirley Evans and Carolyn Hughes are related. But I am hard pressed to believe due to its location that the Mills family of which the mountain is named is the same as the Mills family of James River and Halifax area. Local area lore says that the Mills Mountain family was derived from an Indian. I think though that is not likely but who knows. A little miscegenation will keep'em all guessing and back then it helped keep you from being scalped. Hard to say. I have much to say with regard to the Halifax / James River Mills family as I am out William Mills of Calvert County who arrived there about 1650. The public records of Prince George's County, MD and Beaufort County NC report that some of the grand children of William Mills (Son John and Daughters Mary and Elizabeth) moved to that NC as early as 1719.
