A good point is made here. Watch to see that your genealogy data does not conflict with historical data. In this case, it is worth noting that the land just to the west of this area experienced the Black Hawk Wars but not until many years later. Ohio and western Pennsylvania were experiencing a good deal of Indian "raids" up to and including the Revolutionary period and beyond. Many so called farms in this area were not farms as we know them today. The men would often plant crops in the growing season, tend them and then retreat to the safety of Pennsylvania for the remainder of the year. If any of you remember the Disney series on TV many years ago about Davy Crocket you may remember the scenes of him being attacked from the shore while he was on a river boat. Those scenes were not far from the true situation on the rivers between Ohio and its eastern neighbors of Pennsylvania and Virginia.
