Ullmann [mailto:hsullmann@comcast.net] Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2006 2:52 PM To: MILLS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MILLS] John MILLS of Fairfield, Conn. I've never been able to determine which family this John Mills belongs with, if any. He is not the same as John Mills of Stamford, shipwright. Donald Lines Jacobus said "MILLS. John (I:411) of Milford and Fairfield, 1678, was a Dutchman. [East Hampton Town Records, I:414]." This is on p. 23 of his "Additions and Corrections to the Families of Old Fairfield" bound in the back of his HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILIES OF OLD FAIRFIELD. The first reference, I:411, refers to volume one of the FAMILIES OF OLD FAIRFIELD but the second on, I:414, must refer to East Hampton Town Records. He may be a Dutchman, but I've never seen the slightest evidence that he has any relationship to Peter Mills of Windsor, the Dutchman who signed his name as "Pieter Wouterse vander Meulen." There were Vermeulens, a variant of Van der Meulen," in New Jersey, but more likely in East Jersey. Whether John Mills of Fairfield has any relationship to them is only a possibility.
