They did not put any place names, so do not know if that is in your area of search. I did read with interest that at some point in New Jersey some settlers were bilked out of their money and land by unscrupulous politicians, and they left New Jersey and went to the Carolinas. Unfortunately, it did not say which North or South. I wonder if your William MILLS might have been one of them. June 10 1697, a John MILLS of Fairefield, ( I assumed CT, but could also be NY) signed a purchase agreement for land from the West Jersey Society. This item of information was posted as a reference on the John MILLS B: 1733, Rebecca SMITH as wife, by Mr. Richard Dilts. I wrote to the NJ State Archives at Trenton, and they sent me copies of those page numbers of reference. But the archivist did not believe that they could be the same person. If the John MILLS in 1697 was already an adult, say 30, and if the John B: 1733, would have made him over 63 years old at his birth. Really do not think the father, but could have been the grand father. I wrote to Mr. Dilts, but to date have not heard back from him. So do not know what his link was to reflect. Some of the MILLS of SC did however, go to the Northwest Territory at the opening of that area about 1788 with Major Benjamin Stites, and the settlers were from NJ, MD, NY, and other places. Not sure if that is of any help. pat cw
