Cousin Pat - You wrote "Also found some more MILLS who married DENTON and DENMAN's." April Mills (now in Seattle) says that there was a naming convention "popular" in the early 1800s. Many of the male children were given the mother's maiden name as a middle name. There were two Mills families active in the Westfield (NJ) Presbyterian Church where my GGGrandfather Lewis and his wife Emeline Hamilton got married: John and Anna (Denman) Mills (suggests my Lewis would have been named Lewis D.) Moses and Susanah (Terill) Mills (suggests Lewis would have been named Lewis T.) Is this the info you referred to about Mills' marrying Denmans? I am not sure if my Lewis was a "D" or a "T" From Audrey Shields Hancock (a while back): Boot and Shoe Maker in Westfield, Union Co., NJ. 1840 Head of Household with 60-70y old female living with him. 1850 & 1860 Federal Census: Living Westfield 1880 Lewis D. MILLS b 19 Nov 1817 d 14 Aug 1889 Married 6 Aug 1843 at Westfield Presbyterian Church, Westfield, Union Co., NJ to Emeline HAMILTON and had 7 children named below. Then, I have that he married a Louisa and had a son named Lewis. Children of Emeline: William T. H. MILLS George W. MILLS David Allen MILLS (my Great Grand Father) Caleb H.
