    1. Re: [MILLS] Mills DNA
    2. Thank you, I checked out the link that Helen sent. Worked great. Yes, Belmont Co, is way over to the east of the state and on the Ohio River. I was not sure how far Belmont was from Washington County, Ohio. A Capt. William MILLS, had brothers, John, and Charles. He was in charge of the Fort there, if I remember what I read, but long time ago. Charles was hired to run the mail back and forth down to Losantiville, and other towns along the Ohio, and he also took passengers if he had room in the boat. Not sure now, about how John MILLS fit into the picture. Again, HINDSIGHT. I did not keep the references, just remember some of the details that I read about them. They were very early in the Northwest Territory/Ohio, I do remember that much. I read the story there in one of the many books, history section, about Melissa and Alonzo. A frontier story of young lovers. I wondered if that was where my Elias MILLS and Julia Ann HEFFNER heard the names and they named their first 2 children, those names. - - - -- - - - - - - - My Mother and I went down to the Los Angeles Central Library, in Central City. (That was before the big fire they had in periodicals department. Thousands of books were water damaged. I hit the books for anything on Ohio, and MILLS. She hit the books that were there, and they were all in GERMAN, looking for her surname, GUTMAN, of course now we found that it is also, GUTTMAN/GUTTMANN/and other variations. For a time I went out to the San Fernando valley, in North Hollywood, CA, to the IMMIGRANT Library, that was on Lankershim Blvd, at the time. Way long time ago now. They had assists of how to interpret the printed books that were in GERMAN. Birth, death, marriages, baptisms, etc. Really helped us out a lot. Then things happened, we both ran out of any free time to spend on family history. As in all things life and family come first. But last year, I did put our GUTMAN into a GEDCOM and sent it off to a couple folk who had some of the family on ROOTSWEB.com. Andreas, Nicholas, Joseph, Andrew, Anthony listed on their databases. - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
