Does he appear on the 1870 census for that area that he supposedly was born, Posey Co, IN? Did you find any MILLS families in the Posey Co. IN area on the 1860 census. That would narrow down his family connections. Pat cw I know the LDS Family History Libraries have these census records either on microfilm or microfiche and also on AIS. Did you check just the one county there?
