Sorry folks, I made an error.......Alonzo Derrick Bills was born 8 Dec 1812, in Genesee County, NY. The ~1759/1763 date was for his father James Mills. Sorry 'bout that....... However to the best of my knowledge none of it applies to my g-g-grandfather, ALONZO DERRICK MILLS, b. ~1759/1763. He married Emily Jane Townsend, b. 11 Nov 1729. Per my grandmother, his father was a JAMES MILLS, who lived near Boston, Mass. I sure would like to break down this brick wall.........any help greatly appreciated. Thank you ......... Pat (cw) via her MILLS relative and I via a related Mills cousin along with others listed on the MILLS DNA Project Webpage at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnar.htm<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnar.htm<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnar.htm<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnar.htm>> are apparently from the line of George Mills as indicated in your book. My relative is #59705 with the posting of William MILLS b 1790 New Jersey. http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnap.htm#600<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnap.htm#600<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnap.htm#600<http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnap.htm#600>> From my research, William Mills (1790-1873) is William W. (believed Wynant) Mills (s/o William Mills II [b ca 1752] and Rebecca [--?--]. William W. Mills married at Scotch Plains Baptist Church, Scotch Plains, Union Co., NJ to Elizabeth "Betsey" Clark. (Church Marriage Record) Members of this church in found records show Amy (who I believe was Wm. W.'s grandmother) and Jeremiah Mills. William W. Mills emigrated to Hamilton Co., OH, then Warren Co., OH, perhaps Montgomery Co., OH, and settled in Shelby Co., OH. (Redistricting and naming of new counties in this time period come into play.) Montgomery Co., OH was split and Miami Co. was formed from it. Miami Co., OH was split to form Shelby Co. So, he could have started out in what was originally Montgomery Co. and ended up as Shelby Co., OH. Much later he remarried and lived and died in Miami Co., OH I believe Amy was the wife of William Mills I (1723-1795). I have an leaning toward the maiden name of ELMER for Amy, but have been unable to prove it. There was a Dr. Philemon ELMER in Westfield, NJ, and a SON and grandsons of William I and Amy carry the given name of Philemon Elmer Mills in at least 3 generations, and at least another who was named Philemon (also known later as Philip) ROLL/RALL. I do not know how Jeremiah connects. However, Jeremiah and William Mills II were administrators of the estate of William Mills I. And, Jeremiah Mills (Sr.) (abt. 1746-1824) had a son Jeremiah Mills (Jr.) who also married at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church to Abigail Bryant, and they moved to near Lebanon, Warren County, OH, where it is found that Wm. W. Mills resided for a brief time. The records of Wm. W. Mills indicated he was from Westfield Twp., Union Co., NJ; married at Scotch Plains; removed to Indian Hills at Hamilton Co., OH; resided in Warren Co., OH (next to Hamilton Co.); then to Montgomery Co. to Shelby Co., and finally to Miami Co. where he died. I believe the descendancy for my MILLS and DNA participant's MILLS to be this, based upon your book's information: George Mills & Rebecca [--?--] as indicated on your p. 14. Jonathan Mills & Martha Wood as indicated on your p. 14. Samuel Mills & (1) [--?--] [--?--] as indicated on your p. 18. Samuel Mills & #2 Mary as indicated on your p. 18. William Mills I William Mills II William W. Mills Dennis C. Mills Marcus Mills.............brother of my ancestor, Augustus Mills James Dennis Mills (ancestor of #59705)....cousin of my maternal gm, Mary C. (Mills) Lehmann It thus appears that Richard Mills (under discussion) [wife, Sarah] was the one born by 1708, and was the brother of my Samuel Mills (#2 wife, Mary) and Joseph Mills (cc: Pat's ancestor). They were thus the sons of Samuel and unknown first wife. Hopefully, I am seeing the connections correctly. Audrey (Shields) Hancock Rita (Lehmann) Shields Mary C. It's in many libraries but is also available for sale at www.pictonpress.com<http://www.pictonpress.com/<http://www.pictonpress.com<http://www.pictonpress.com/>>. It was published by Newbury Street Press in 2002. Richard was the son of Samuel (but not of Abigail Smith -- error on p. 18), grandson of Jonathan and Martha (Wood) Mills and great-grandson of George Mills of Jamaica, Long Island. This is the only documented treatment of this Mills family in print and corrects several common errors and assumptions.
