    3. Lots of questions in that Digest. First, it was not terribly unusual for English and sometimes colonial families to give the same given name to two children in the same family. I have one where there is Giles the eldest and Giles the younger. David Greene mentions this custom in his editorial in the January 2006 issue of The American Genealogist, which just arrived in my mailbox today. (Yes, it's still way behind schedule.) Note 44 on p. 77 of my book, A Mills and Kendall Family History, provides references to two articles by Matthew Wood that contain lots of information on Martha Wood and her family. New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, 120 (1989), p. 9 and surrounding pages, 132 (2001):37-45. They are the basis for my conclusion that Jonathan 2 Mills married Martha Wood, not Martha Halstead. Audrey, look back at the book. Pat's line agrees with what I have (except it goes farther). Richard and James alias Richard were sons of Samuel and an unknown wife, not son of Joseph. Richard and Joseph were brothers. I didn't follow who was supposed to be the son of Sarah Denton, but in spite of what's out there all over the Internet, she was NOT the wife of Samuel Mills of Elizabethtown. She was the wife of Samuel Mills of Greenwich. He in turn was son of Samuel 2 and grandson of George 1 of Jamaica. See my very detailed article on Samuel of Greenwich: “Samuel3 Mills, Sadler, of Jamaica, New York, and Greenwich, Connecticut,” New England Historical and Genealogical Register 156 (April 2002):112-20. Anyone can get a copies of those articles from the Allen County Public Library if it's not available near you. See http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/persi.html If you're not aware of it, I have a small file on this family at WorldConnect: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hsullmann2&id=I430 Helen Ullmann
