I found two Family Tree entries on Roots Web that incorrectly identifies the John Mills of 1727, MD, as the John Mills living in Washington Township during the Revolutionary War. John Mills of Morgan Township, Washington County, PA, was born in 1760 and is the son of John Mills of 1727. Not all of the children in the family have been identified at this time. The 1760 John Mills turned up on a Pension Application submitted to the Mills list in the summer of 2003, It states that he was born in 1760, that he served as a Pvt. in the PA militia, that his wife was Rachel Leonard, and that he died in Knox County, Ohio in 1829, Many reports have Joseph, Jacob, and Elijah being born in PA. Elijah is identified in his Pension Application as having been born in Frederick CO, MD. It seems logical that all of the children were born in MD, Our family history states that the family immigrated into Maryland from Wales in about 1660. The relationship of John Mills of 1760 to the family of John Mills of 1727 was proved with a DNA test. There was a 36/37 marker match between a male descendant of John and a descendant of Jacob. This means that 8 generations back there was a common ancestor and that puts us right at the doorstep of John Mills of 1727. making both John and Jacob his sons. I can understand how the confusion of the two John's occurred. But I can't understand how someone failed to question the fact contained in the notes, that a man born in 1727 could endure the hardship of serving as a Frontier Ranger in the late 1770's, and die in 1829. Our Mills line contains some real he-men. But this is a little too much. Shirley
