The history of John Mills Sr, and his first five children, plus. Rumors, Myths & Facts. On the Mills DNA, group 540 tracks to this linage...... If anyone has any additional information or source information, please let me know as this is a long time brick wall for many Mills' researchers. As most members know I tend to focus on facts and reputable sources. I do not have any problems when others speculate on names, dates and relationships....as long as they are documented as a speculation or a best guess. I have many unproven ideas, that I really like....just no way to confirm or disprove them. I started my research in 1981, and have been fortunate to meet many Mills researcher's and writers that have shared their work and allegiance to reputable sources. John Mills Sr, born ca. 1687/8, most likely in England, no proof. John and his descendants were devoted Quakers and are well documented in all of there moves from MD, VA, NC, TN, OH, OH, and west The following are undocumented claims! 1. John Sr. was born in PA, no proof, if true we should find at the least one Quaker record. 2. John Mills and Sarah HARROLD of PA were his parents, no proof 3. John Mills and Mary KENION from Oldham England were his Grandparents, no proof. 4. His first wife was Rachel Bates, this item can be discredited based on son Thomas' wedding document. 5. The names STEFAN and WRIGHT also show up as wives, no proof. John Sr's first wife was Rebeckah, only one fact has been found, her signature on son Thomas' wedding document in 1730. We know she died after 18 Mar 1730, Thomas Mills wedding date and before 1742, birth of William by John Sr's second wife Rebeckah. John Sr's second wife was also Rebeckah, based on three items; 1. the release of her dower in 1743 on property transactions, 2. 2nd wife Rebeckah and 7 children listed in Quaker records, Hinshaw Vol I, p510 3. John Sr's will in 1759. The will also mentions the five children of his first wife, but no name. The Children of John Sr and first wife Rebeckah were; 1. Thomas b. 1709, 2. John Jr b. 27 Oct 1712, 3. Hur b. 1714, 4. Henry b. 23 Sep 1720, 5. Mary b. 29 Mar 1724.
