Rank and organization: Sergeant, Company C, 1st New York Mounted Rifles Place and date: At Sandy Cross Roads, N.C., 4 September 1862. Entered service at:------. Birth: Middletown, N.Y. Date of issue: 2 April 1898. Citation: While scouting, this soldier, in command of an advance of but 3 or 4 men, came upon the enemy, and charged them without orders, the rest of the troops following, the whole force of the enemy, 120 men, being captured.
