    1. John Mills and Abigail Minard (both b. 1770)
    2. John Mills (b. 09 Sept 1770, BP unknown) married Abigail Minard (b. 11 May 1770, BP unknown) about 1789 or 1790 (marriage place unknown, possibly New York). Between 1790 and 1800, they had four sons, David, b. about 1790 in New York, James, b. 20 Aug 1793, Cornelius, b.16 Oct 1795, Isaac, b. abt 1800 (All birth dates/years are calculated or estimated from cemetery, death, and tax records in Yarmouth Township, Elgin County, Ontario). This family may be the John Mills family found in the 1800 census for Kingston, Ulster Co, New York with a female (Abigail?) and 4 sons under 10. Later they had 4 more children John Mills, Jr. (aka "The Younger") b. 15 Mar 1803, and Samuel, Sarah and Phebe Mills (birth dates and places unknown). Some sources report 2 additional daughters but their names have not been found. Abigail Minard Mills appears to have joined the Quakers, perhaps along with several of her Minard extended family members. Her husband, John, does not ever seem to join. In Oct 1810, Abigail Mills, wife of John, transfers her membership from the Marlborough Monthly Meeting in Ulster County, NY to the Adolphustown MM in the Niagara area of Canada. In June 1816, she returns to New York, her membership being received at the Junius MM in Seneca County, New York. Between 1816 and 1820, sons Cornelius and David join the Quakers and marry into well known Quaker families. In May of 1820 Abigail, wife of John, transfers to the Norwich MM in Canada where she and her husband live the rest of their lives in the Quaker community of Sparta, Yarmouth Township, Elgin Co., Ontario, both dying in 1864. Sons David, Cornelius, James, and Isaac and other family members move to Ontario with them. Does this family sound familiar to those researching the Mills families in Ulster Co. and adjacent areas of New York? Is Abigail Minard the daughter of James Minard and Abigail Camp? Jim Otton
