    1. RE: [MILLS] Mills of Darke Co, Ohio
    2. Audrey Hancock
    3. My William W. MILLS family of Westfield Twp., Essex Co. (now Union Co.), NJ moved ca1830s from NJ through PA to Hamilton Co., OH, to Warren Co., OH (living with or near relative, Jeremiah Mills), to Montgomery Co. & Miami Co., OH. He and his family finally settled in Shelby Co., OH, and after the death of his wife, he remarried and moved to Miami Co., OH where he died. They descend from other ancestors of Westfield Twp., Essex Co. (now Union Co.), NJ and Elizabethtown, NJ...perhaps descended from assumed early immigrant George Mills of Long Island, NY. A grandson of my Wm. W. Mills was in Darke Co., OH for a time. Darke Co., OH (mid-section of Ohio, western county of Ohio bordering Indiana) Shelby Co., OH (north of Miami Co.) both border east of Darke Co., OH. Auglaize Co., OH (north of Shelby Co., OH) Allen Co., OH (north of Auglaize Co., OH) Montgomery Co., OH (south of Miami Co., OH) Preble Co., OH (south of Darke Co., OH, western county of Ohio bordering Indiana) Guernsey Co., OH is the second county to the west of the eastern border of Ohio with that sliver of West Virginia that extends northward. I think one of the biggest things in research is also to know when and from which counties were formed. Montgomery from Wayne Co., Michigan (1803). Miami Co. from Montgomery Co. (1807). Preble Co. from Montgomery Co. and Butler Co. (1808) Darke Co. from Miami Co.(1809). Shelby Co. from Miami Co. (1819). Allen Co. from Shelby Co. (1820). Guernsey Co. evidently has no connection with these western Ohio counties. Guersey is east and Darke is on the west in Ohio...so they really aren't close. I am researching my great-grandfather JAMES LEWIS MILLS of Guernsey County Ohio born July 23, 1830. Married PHILOMENA SHAFFER in 1860. They moved to Auglaize and Allen Counties after the Civil War and raised their children: Maryetta, Jennie, John, Ellen, Maud, Emma, and Charles. Any bells? JAMES is my brick wall, and I've so far been unable to identify his parents or any siblings (if there were any). thanks Carol Binkley Willis On Tue, 27 Jun 2006 21:16:17 -0700 (PDT) Marsami Millonzi writes: > Hi, Are there any Mills descendants from Darke Co, Ohio out there??? > I have written a book and am looking for additional information for > the supplemental that I am currently working on.
