Pat, Another person on the list emailed and said that Guernsey and Darke were on separate sides of the state of Ohio.... I am not sure but I know I can find out. USGenWeb.com or Rootsweb.com I believe has the old maps of the Ohio counties. Maybe we both should check to assure ourselves where the two places really stand in location of one another. By the way, I live in Riverside, CA!!! Hey, neighbor! Marsi ChekWriter@aol.com wrote: Marsi: Just remembered, that there was a William MILLS in and around Marion, Marion Co. Ohio. He was there very early on. He had a brother named Charles. Charles was the mail carrier on the river, between there and Cincinnati, and he also ferried travelers in his canoe/boat too. Read about them very early on in my research. But at the time, no link to my family, so did not do "real" good reference recording. There was also an advertisement in one of the "Crossroads of the Nation/America" publications, about a stone with inscribed information about a William MILLS, that was for sale. I should have purchased it, but could not at the time, figure how to get it from Ohio to Los Angeles, Ca, in one piece. So do not know what happened to it. Of course, that story also had a John as a brother too. And unfortunately, there are just "way too many" of their names in the MILLS family, to really track them so early. Those stories did not have the names of the spouses to help out. If Darke, Guernsey, and Marion are near one another, think they are, then it might be that they may be related. I cannot confirm same. That other person was me! When I sent the information on the location of the counties, I was looking at the map in Handybook for Genealogist published by The Everton Publishers, Inc.. Pat and I (via DNA testing by male family members) are descended from a common ancestor somehow back in time, and her ancestors and mine come from Westfield Twp., Essex Co. (now Union Co.), NJ. That ancestor was possibly George Mills of Long Island, NY.
