This link that Nancy has very kindly posted has link to COLE family members who were of the 1793 NJ Militia List. Several family members listed on it. Have those who were wishing names of COLE family members read through this reference? Pat cw In a message dated 9/22/2008 5:32:04 A.M. I meant for Sussex Co. NJ. Any of the towns, mentioned in the various and sundry MILLS related and allied families on the many gene sites. Hanover, Andover, Hardyston, etc. Might show where some of the families farms were, relative to each other. Did not mean to confuse. Thank you for the link too. I have some old maps of NJ but doubt they will help you. Have you checked Mid Atlantic Archives? There's a link from my website. "Misc. The other was from Audrey SHIELDS HANCOCK, the Westfield one. ca 1740 or 1790. It did show the names and where their farms/homes were on the map. My Elias MILLS is shown in town of Westfield, on the main drag going through it. Pat cw In a message dated 9/20/2008 6:33:55 A.M. Esopus, I believe, is in Ulster Co., NY and Pahaqualley was part of Walpack until the division of the two counties in 1824. For further clarification I'm sending this to the Sussex Co., NJ Mailing List. Perhaps someone can help you with Robinsons Furnace. As you can see, there are many clues. The where abouts of Robinsons Furnace might be very helpful although I am thrown with the fact that it mentions Greenwich since that town isn't in Sussex County. Thanks for any info you can give me. Here is the article: The New York Gazette, January 28, 1754: Jonathan Hopkins resided in Sussex County, NJ as early as 1753. Two thousand acres of valuable land to be sold very resonable, lying at Greenwich, in the County of Sussex, in New Jersey, about two miles from the courthouse in said county , and four mile from a land place on the Delaware River above Robinsons Furnace, 'tis well stored with Black Walnut and other valuable timber, which may be transported down said river, in boats or rafts, to Trenton and Philadelphia: the chief part upland, fit for the plough, with a sufficient quantity of good swamp and meadow; there is two tenements and farms begun, a good saw mill built and very good streams for more mills to be built in sundry places on said land, 'tis a very good place for raising stock, having large mountains very near the land, is exceeding good for grass what is cleared, and likewise for grain, a publick road from Esopus to Pahaqualley crosseth this tract. For further particul! ars, enquire of Jonathan Hampton in Elizabeth Town, or of Jonathan Hopkins and Barney Swazey on the premises, who will give good title and time for payment.
