Read where one party had mentioned that the origin of the name was actually from the Bible. that of Job verse 14 Chapter 42, of the Old Testament. Says he had 7 sons and 3 daughters. 1. Jemimah. - Okay - Lots of MILLS girls named same. 2. Keziah - Okay - Lots of MILLS girls and their descendants named same. 3. Keren-happuch Okay - Lot of folk with this name, both as a given name, as well as some listed with it as a surname. However, the name seems to have been jostled about and the spelling changed: Keren to Karen Happuch to Happuck. And or altogether as Karenhappuck. Did a Goggle search, not much came up bibically, but went to Wikipedia, and there was much about the organization "Job's Daughters'" created about 1920 by a nice lady. A spin off organization as well from Eastern Star and Job's Daughters were that of "Rainbow Girl's" of which I was once a member. Sadly, it was short lived as their activities and my work schedule precluded me from regular attendance. So had to give up my post as "HOPE" to another good friend and member. At least now I know the origin of KAREN HAPPUCK, in that it is not of Native American origins, but of the Old Testament of the Bible. I surmise that the early Jesuit Fathers and priests who came early on to the New World, spreading the word of GOD among the uncivilized gave the name to many of the Native American daughters and mothers of the tribe to replace their "perceived" uncivilized ones. What a turn around that must have been. Running Rabbit of the Deep Water, to Karenhappuck and just Karen, maybe. Or From Stands With A Fist to just Happy. as an example, DO NOT KNOW. Again, Genealogy is teaching more history than I ever can remember now. cw **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Try it now.
