It may be that the "new way of searching" at Ancestry is simply that they've switched you away from "Exact search" to their other method of searching. I've noticed a couple of times recently that when I open Ancestry and search, I get the other sorts of results, which I don't like either. When you go to Ancestry, look to see whether the little box titled "Exact matches only" is checked. It's located under the tab for "Historical Records."
