If posted to any other lists, please copy me at: seamus@nycap.rr.com If you are researching relatives with a TROY, NY area connection, you will be interested in this new on-line, name searchable, data base of over 700 names of Troy Area residents who died in 1901-1902. This information was extracted from Troy City Directories and information covers not only Troy but also data from the Watervliet/Green Island and Cohoes/Waterford sections of the City Directory. Anyone who has ever used City Directories as a genealogy research tool appreciates the wealth of information available in these books. Starting with the 1902 Troy City Directory, this data base was a first step by the Troy Irish Genealogy Society to capture this information and portray it in a name searchable format that could be used by researchers who do not have access to Troy City Directories. It should be noted that these records, like all the TIGS data bases, cover the general population in the area and are NOT restricted to Irish surnames. The information in this data base may include, in addition to the name of the individual: Date of death. Name of surviving spouse. Name of deceased spouse. Occupation of deceased and name of employer. Street address and city of residence of deceased. As time permits, data in subsequent years of the City Directories will be added to the on-line records on the TIGS website. You can view these records by going to the TIGS website located at: Troy Irish Genealogy Society website http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ and click on TIGS PROJECTS. We invite you to explore the TIGS website where you will find local history articles, resources and genealogy research tips as well as several data bases and a number of interesting Troy Area photographs. Also, you can search your surnames in the following additional records automated by TIGS members and other volunteers: Burden Iron Company Steam Mill Payroll Records. (8,236 names) Troy Area Marriage Records. (1,448 names) Troy Area Death Records. (6,031 names) Index-History of the Troy Police Department. (668 names) Bank Officers in Troy Banks From 1801-1891. (299 names) Prominent Citizens of Troy, NY & Rensselaer County. (1,800 names) These data bases are part of a continuing effort by the Troy Irish Genealogy Group to make available on line, Troy area records, that may be of interest to genealogy researchers, especially those outside the Troy area. 1. Re: [MILLS] DNA Kits Seem to Have a Match
    2. Hi Charlene: Thank you. I was not sure if I had missed an email from you to the List or not. Just thought I had better ask. I guess with all the new DNA kits coming and being different sorts, you had to go to a new numbering sequence. Thank you again. Pat cw Just wish I could find the common denominator of our group, John, Lewis, Abraham and George, that is if all of our research is correct. At least by DNA we are in the same grouping. And by their birth places, we are in the same place, New Jersey. But from there, John is in Sussex Co, Lewis is not listed which county he was from. And Abraham is only listed from Ontario, Canada. So I guess the hunt will have to continue on.

    1. DNA Kits Seem to Have a Match
    2. Hi Charlene: Did you notice or did I miss your email notification that DNA Kit #6401 and Kit # 42760 seem to have the same ancestor listed on the list. So they should be a match, right? James C (Codd/Cobb) Mills B: 1815 TN has Lawson Fletcher Mills as his son. And from there they have different other sons listed with family. You also have them with 2 different types of category, 160 B and 160 D. What is significance of the B and D? mean? Thank you Pat cw PS I am sending this to both your addresses I have on record, I do not remember which one is the correct one.

    1. Re: [MILLS] DNA Kits Seem to Have a Match
    2. Charlene
    3. Hi Pat, Yes, I noticed they were a match. However, I have not been notifing the list of every match since the people interested can look at the results site and see the match. All of the people in group 160 are a match or a close match. The letters mean they are one marker off normally, however, in this case I should have put both in 160b since they both descend from the same person. The participants normally just tell me which line they descend from and don't list all the brothers. Therefore, if you look at both of their pedigrees you would assume that George b. 10 dec 1866 and James b. 13 dec 1865 are brothers. This is fine with me since it really is only important to know each participant's direct line. All 12 marker matches are identified on this page: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/mills/mills_dnad.htm When you look at this chart you will notice that I grouped 160 a, b, c, and d together since they all match. These all match to 160. They are one marker off to 160e and 160f. I will change 42760 to 160b. 1. Orlando MILLS - Actually William Orlando MILLS
    2. Someone was looking recenlty for more information about Orlando MILLS. There is an Orlando MILLS, but he is listed on his family as William Orlando MILLS, of Preble County, Ohio. See Rootsweb.com database "Burlingham" by Amanda Sanford. Burlingham Family Tree, Interestingly, her last name is SANFORD, and that is a last name of one of the wives of a MILLS who is descended from the John MILLS, B: 1733 UE Loyalist of Ontario, Canada. "Very Interesting" as he used to say. Pat cw I know, I know, I am grasping again.

    1. MILLS WELLS Cemetery, Ohio
    2. Hi Ken: On this cemetery, my cousins read all the cemeteries in Bethel, Monroe, and Brown Townships, in Miami County/Clark County area and they did a book with the Tipp City Historical Society. It sold for about $10.00. This was quite a few years ago, (probably before 1990), so they were saying that the best bet is to write to them and tell them who are you looking for, and they can check to see if they know of them/about them. Their email Is _BNJNAZ@frontiernet.net_ (mailto:BNJNAZ@frontiernet.net) and he will look it up for you. I have people on the very old version of the PAF program, so it does not sort in any way. Presently, much to my annoyance, I cannot find my disk, that has my earliest research on it. Will continue to try to find it in my storage area. On a very old county road map, the two cemeteries were on it as MILLS-WELLS and WELLS Cemeteries. ( I called the county offices and was referred to the Roads Maintenance Department, and they sent me a county map, way back when.) I - 75 Highway. These cemeteries are/were at Ginghamsburg, Miami County, Ohio. The one was on land owned by John MILLS (Ours) and he sold the land per my cousins to the WELLS Cemetery for their cemetery. So, they say, that is how it came to be known as the MILLS-WELLS Cemetery. But on the old map, it did show 2 distinct cemeteries, one marked as MILLS and the other as WELLS. But later maps showed it as MILLS-WELLS Cemetery and WELLS Cemetery. I guess with the passage of time, and the fogginess of everyone's memories, that is why it is so confusing now. (Among the problems being that now it was developed for homes.) The county authorities were so annoyed with my cousin as she did all the hard work in calling to their attention that they were responsible for the maintenance and care of these cemeteries all these years. All of them were totally overgrown with bushes, berry bushes and brambles, trees/woods, etc. She found where there were Civil War Soldiers and families buried in those cemeteries. I do remember when I was there, that we had to weave our way through the trees, weeds, snow, etc. to the one cemetery that was behind the farm house and to the side of the great big barn that was on the property. (December 26-January 1st, 1988) Sadly, to report, that one of the cemeteries has been BULL DOZED, in the name of a new housing development. Before anyone of concern to stop them, all but 5 or 6 large stones were left. These are still standing/and or were moved to another part of the land. My cousins can answer any of your questions. Pat cw
