Surnames: Mills Miles Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/jE1.2ACEB/3485 Message Board Post: Trying to find out information on a woman named either Emily Mills or Miles, born between 1823-1829 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. I know that she had three boys named Arthur, Henry, and Francis and that she was listed as "unmarried" as late as the 1871 census, living as a housekeeper with a musician named William Trundle (also unmarried). Does anyone know anything concrete about her before 1871? I found an Emily living with a George Bone/Bunn, but I don't believe that is the same Emily.

The mention of Four Holes swamp in S.C. caught my attention, This Elizabeth woman who lived at Four Holes swamp was she a Native woman ? as Four Holes Swamp is home to the Natchez-Kusso Edisto Tribe, they live at Four Holes & Creel Town... Jeff Beard Hazel LeBlanc <gen-search@cox.net> wrote: I have reading with great interest in your Mills family. I trying to find the parents and siblings of Emily Dorothy Mills/Dorothy Emily Mills born Dec. 24, 1785. She was 23 when she married Benjamin "Ben" Goodson, (59) March or May 21, 1809 in Laurens Co., GA according to a cousin's research. As the first child, Rebecca/Rebeckah Dulana Goodson was born March 20, 1810 in Laurens Co., GA. Ben was a Revolutionary solider, who was born 30 miles from Camden, SC (on Lynches Creek) and was married first to Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) about 1784 near Four Hole Swamp, Charleston Dist, SC. They had 7 known children in Four Hole Swamp, then 5 children in Wilkinson Co., GA. The last child being born in 1807. So Elizabeth probably died 1807-1809 and Benjamin needed a wife to take care of his children. Ben seemed to enjoy his love life, because he and Emily went on to have 13 more children. As mentioned the first was born in Laurens Co., GA. the next two were born in Marion Co., MS, the next 6 were born in Lawrence Co., MS, the last 4 were born in Franklin Co., MS. When Ben was 82 the United States Congress passed a law providing for a pension of $60.00 per year for veterans of the Revolutionary War. He applied for and was approved for the pension, which he apparently received until his death. He must have been an educated man, because he signed the petition and was a Methodist preacher for 60 years. Ben was 97 and Emily was 61 in 1847 when they moved to Claiborne Parish, LA, where they lived until his death, on May 25, 1851, at the age of 100 years and 21 days. After his death, Emily petitioned the court for a pension as the widow of a Revolutionary War veteran, which she was granted and retroactive to February 3, 1853. She evidently could not read or write because she signed the petition with and X mark. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows her family or have come across anything and set it aside in hopes of finding a connection at a later date. 2. I am looking for more information on the family of Mary Jane Mills and John C. Mills. I know from birth records that both were born in Arboath or St. Vigeans, Angus, Scotland in the 1840s. I have their birth dates. I also have the fmaily of Mary Jane Mills down to the present but don't know much about their parents except that they were George Mill/Mills depending on the record and Jean/Jane Cruickshank. Mary Jane Mills married William John Park or John William Park depending on the record in Middlesex Co., Canada. He was born in Armagh Co., Ireland. I have checked the wills index in Scotland and found no George in either spelling. George probably died in Canada, but when? I found a George Mill in a couple of census records before and after Jane, his wife came to Kansas with the Park family in the 1870 Geary Co., Kansas Census. She was 58 at that time. She died in 1878 and was buried on the family property. John C. Mills is listed in the 1880 as 33-farmer-Single-living in Lake Twp., Harvey Co., Kansas. He apparently sold some land to his sister for $100. Does anyone know any more about this family? Thank you. Pat Morano
