    1. Re: [MILLS] Elisha Mills
    2. Not sure if he could have been born in Ohio in 1771. That area known as Northwest Territory, was not open to settlement until about 1788. Unless he was there as a missionary family, working with the Indians. Not sure about that either. Possibly he was born in one of the other settlers states that they came from? NJ, NC, SC, VA, MD, NY, PA, or ? Or did you make a typo on the date? Pat cw

Maybe you have already tried that? Sorry I do not have any Fred C MILLS on any of my files. Pat cw But will make a note, and keep them in mind for the future.

    2. Helen S. Ullmann
    3. Dear Jo, I have written a book about this family. You can buy a copy at www.NewEnglandAncestors.org, but it's rather expensive, $85 I believe, as the first printing sold out and it's now available as a print-on-demand book. It is also available on Family History Library microfilm 1440696. You might be able to get it by interlibrary loan from the St. Louis [Missouri] County Public Library. It is thorough researched and thoroughly documented. But if all you want is the list of Peter and Joanna (Porter) Mills children, look at my file on WorldConnect at Rootsweb.com or on the Ancestry World Tree at Ancestry.com (a free part of Ancestry). http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hsullmann&id=I854 should take you right to Peter and Joanna's family. As you will see though, I didn't include Ann's children. The book includes a great deal of information. In the first section I present a lot of material, much of which disagrees with other data that is out there in print and on the web. If you want a good picture of Peter and Joanna and his family, you need to see the book. And for Peter's mother, Dorcas Messenger, you need to see my article on the Messengers in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, volume 153 (1993), pages 353-372. Dorcas's father was Edward Messenger. But his parents were not Andrew and Sarah. His parents ARE NOT KNOWN in spite of what you will see out there. Andrew and Sarah are fiction. Pieter signed his name as spelled above in the subject line. I've seen it spelled lots of ways, but your spelling is a new one! Helen Ullmann

    2. Linda Croucher has Samuel MILLS line of Dedham MA on her database On rootsweb. Have you already queried her if she knows of any descendant MILLS of that line? The heading on her database is "All in the Family 2/05". Her email: _cruella282@yahoo.com_ (mailto:cruella282@yahoo.com) if that is of any assistance. I did find an entry for either Benjamin or a Samuel MILLS who had taken charge of an Indian boy slave, at age 6 1/2, submitted to the MILLS LIST by Joyce, as she found it interesting and listed the freepages site 3 7 06. She found it listed. Also have a Benjamin MILLS, lived in Dedham MA 1676/7. But that is all that it had as reference. Pat cw

    3. Hello List, I ran across the name of Hugh Mills dated 1761 in Early Tennessean's book. I believe that he had a brother named James and James and Hugh where in Hawkins County between 1761 and 1790. James ended up Davidson County, TN where he was issued a grant for military service in the Rev War. Most likely Hugh served also, but no proof. Please help with any info if you can. Larry Mills

    2. Hi Don and John: I seem to have picked up a family file on the family of John MILLS of Braintree. It lists the John MILLS and Susannah B:1595 and d: 12 10 1675 age 80 yrs at Braintree, Quincy, MA. Unfortunately, the person whose database I seem to have collected suppressed the sources. So Do not know who this came from. Maybe it is posted on rootsweb.com or elsewhere with more documentation. This is the family of Joy, Recompense, John, Jonathan, James, etc. Surnames here were Shove, Davis, Hawkins, Sheffield. John Jr. married Mary SHOVE, and they had 9 children, Elizabeth, Sarah, Capt. John, Jonathan, Edward, Susannah, Mary, Nathaniel, Susannah 2. This surname group were: Hayward, Willard, Spear. Vinton, Sturgis, White. Those are the only surnames that show on marriages that had offspring. Willard married Mather and Thomas, and Cowdry, Lefevre, Bosworth. Rice. I apparently did not download any further, because there were no MILLS further at that particular research exercise. Sorry I could not help more. Pat cw You might try lateral research, that is, the husband of the MILLS, and see if it might go back to MILLS in Braintree, or wherever the source might have been.

    3. Good morning John, Thanks for your reply.......My Mills has been a real brick wall. I do not know if the John or Samuel Mills are related or not.
