    3. To J Mills...In response to your posting, the Mills family which I posted, according to the book I mentioned, were descendants of a John Mills, born ca 1660-65 in England, died 1-17-1704 in Philadelphia, came to America 1672, married before 1688. A descendant Amos Mills, born 1752, son of Hur (Herr) Mills, gave some info that his great grandfather went to Virginia on Opekan Creek. After Braddock's War involving Indians broke out, the family, being Quakers, went to NC and settled in Guilford Co. along with Bensons (Beesons ?), Beals and Venights. The few pages I have from the book clearly show the family were Quakers from Chester Co., PA and on into VA and NC. I have not connected this family to my ancestor Moses Mills, born ca 1747, joined Rev. War 1776 from Halifax Co., VA, married 1787 in Charlotte Co., VA to Keronhappuck Rather, had children William, James and Martha Clabourn Mills. I only had the info on the above family because they did use the first name Moses occasionally and I do not know parents of my Moses Mills who lived in Elbert and Fayette Cos., GA. 3. Hello J Mills, My MILLS family (at least one line of them--I have 2 lines) came from Vermillion Co, IL. They were Quakers as well. They passed through Jefferson Co, TN and Keokuk Co, IA before moving to Indian Territory, OK, which is now Bluejacket, Craig Co, OK, in about 1891. Subsequently, they moved to Coffeyville, Montgomery Co, KS. My grandparents were Almeda Mills and Robert Vermillion. My great grandfather was Perry Mills who married Rachel T. E. Thornburg in 1859 in IA. Perry was born in 1839 in IL. His parents were Elijah, born in IL or OH and Nancy Elmore, born in TN. Elijah and Nancy were married in 1824 in Jefferson Co, TN. We have no information at this point regarding Elijah's parents. Nancy's parents were David Elmore and Elizabeth Hammon. David and Elizabeth were married in Jefferson Co, TN in 1805. Rachel's parents were Obediah Thornburg and Prescilla Mills (this is the other line of Mills). Obed and Pressie were married in 1829 in Jefferson Co, TN. Obediah's parents were Richard Thornborough and Margaret Chase. Richard and Margaret were married in 1804 in Jefferson Co, TN. Pressie's parents were Isaac Mills and Rachel Bales. Isaac and Rachel were married in 1811 in Jefferson Co, TN. Obed and Pressie moved to Washington Co, OR between 1841-1865 where they died in early 1900's. Isaac died in 1835 in Jefferson Co, TN, and Rachel died in 1889 in OR. Is there anything you or anyone can add to the above, especially regarding Elijah Mills or his parents? Thank you. 3. Hello, Did you mean to say, that the William Mills b. 1773-1776 time frame, who lived and died in Moriah, Essex Co NY, could be the son of Issac Mills and Rachel Beals Mills? Was this in reply to my research posting, or have I mixed this up with another reply? I am looking for William Mills who died in Moriah, Essex Co NY, married to Hannah, and is on the 1860 census listed as 87 years old, born NY. He is buried in Mineville Cemetery, Moriah, Essex Co NY. If you see any connection, could you share more about the name Isaac Mills and wife Rachel Beals, and where did they live, and their birth and date deaths? Any sources of your research would be great as well, for further study. 3. Hello Pat, There is a census listing and tax record listing, consistantly for a William Mills in Essex Co NY, first in the Crown point area, then later in the Moriah area. He is listed as married to a Hannah. I have no idea who his parents are. I have no idea as to his children. But I am thinking that possibly his son was Gideon Mills b. 1798 NY, who in 1830 census was living at Moriah, Essex Co NY. Gideon Mills left the area to settled permanently at Fulton Co IL as of 1836, he died there in 1870, and he is my ancestor. I am trying to find the father of Gideon Mills, and William Mills of Moriah, Essex Co NY appears to be a good candidate, but no proof, so that is why I am researching him. Online there are 2 different listing for the grave of William Mills and his wife Hannah. They are both buried together at Mineville Cemetery, Moriah , Essex Co NY. One says his date of death was 3-9-1861, age 91 years, the other says he died 3-9-1867, age 91 years. Apparently, ther gravestones were 'read' and the 1 and the 7 looked similar, so there is slight confusion involving 6 years. That is such a very small matter, that it is not important to me, because the basic age is what I need to work with. His wife was Hannah and she died 2-10-1852 at 72 years. In the 1860 census William Mills is listed as 87 years old, and born in New York, making his birth date about 1773. We all know that ages stated on census reports are very often wrong by several years. Even the grave stone age of 91 years is not to be taken as 100% correct, because that age would only be as good as who ever reported it, and their memory might have been off slightly. The fact is , that there appaers to be only one man in the area named William Mills, and he was married to Hannah, and he was born somewhere in the basic time frame of 1773-1776 and he lived and died in Moriah, Essex Co NY. I would love to find a list of his children! In the 1860 census this William Mills was widowed, and living in the household of a Cheney STIMPSON in Moriah, who was married to Mabel age 46, it has been thought that Mabel could be the daughter of William and Hannah Mills, but no proof of that. If anyone has any information about any MILLS family of Moriah, Essex Co NY. I would love to see it. Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Emily, d/o Charles, s/o Pearl D. Mills, d/o John Oscar Mills, s/o William H. Mills b. 1827 NY, s/o Gideon Mills b. 1798 NY, s/o ???? 3. Hello, I have found more information, please see if this connects to your family, and please reply to me. William Mills born about 1773-1776 in New York, he is listed at Crown Point, Essex Co NY in the 1830 census. In the 1835 tax assessors list, he is listed at Factoryville, Essex Co NY. Factoryville is a hamlet about midway between Crown Point and Crown Point Center, Essex Co NY. In the 1840 census William Mills is listed at Moriah, Essex Co NY. In the 1850 census William Mills born about 1773 and his wife Hannah born about 1780 are listed at Moriah, NY. In the 1860 census William Mills b. 1773 NY is listede widowed and boarding with Cheney Stimpson family in Moriah, NY. Could be his son in law, no proof yet. Both William Mills and his wife Hannah are buired together at Mineville Cemetery, Moriah, Essex Co NY, he died 3-9-1867, at 91 yrs, and she died 2-10-1852 at 72 years. Is there anyone researching the MILLS name in Upstate New York, specifically the Essex Co NY area? I am researching this William Mills as I believe he could be the Father of Gideon Mills b. about 1798 NY, he died in Fulton Co IL in 1870. Best regards, Lilly Martin
