    2. Looking at the web site, _www.familytreedna.com_ (http://www.familytreedna.com) under MILLS DNA PROJECT, the family grouping might bring more light on your question. By looking at the family trees that match, 12 12 and then the other markers show that other families listed there have very similar numbers. Go to _www.familytreedna.com_ (http://www.familytreedna.com) in search box, type in MILLS click on MILLS click on link: crrking, etc. go to bottom of page, click on DNA results look at categories 170, etc. look in R1B1 for haplo grouping These 2 MILLS families are linked as they are a match. Further inspection of those databases found on other genealogy web sites, might shed more light as to whether or not, they were truly Quakers. Was it not the first settlers who came and established a settlement at Jamestown, now VA. (early 1500s) Possibly a Hurricane came in and they were overcome, above and beyond the stories of getting into a war with the Native Americans? Those that survived if at all, fled inland. Rumors of blue eyed native Americans were found. From there on followed: Was it not the Pilgrims, who came next? (The Mayflower Group of Ships) 1620ish) Then came the Quakers? Then came the Quakers who left England, went to the Netherlands, then came to the New World, through England? Then came the ones who settled in New York, into Connecticut (1630ish) Then came the William Penn group, were they also Quakers? Settled in now Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Delaware, then New Jersey? From there on our forefathers/mothers descendants grew this country to what it is now? I do not have handy a very good edition of our American History. Still in storage, sorry. Pat cw Hope this might help a little.

    3. Hi Ken, as best as I have been able to determine the Indian line of descent is through Rueben Mills wife Amelia Elliott Mills. Amelia Elliott Mills was the grandaughter of William Harris who was born about 1750 in Brunswick Co. Va. Brunswick Co. Va. is where the Saponi Indians were settled at on a reservation near Fort Christanna, Harris and Lynch are both surnames found among the Saponi indians and both of these surnames appear in my family tree...i'm currently in correspondence with the Haliwa-Saponi tribe, and Occaneechi Band of Saponi to try to document and learn more about the Harris & Lynch families. Jeff Beard No Powhatan ancestry, just Cherokee, Creek, and Saponi Kbpoolegen@aol.com wrote: Hi, I have no Indian descent from a Montgomery Co., NC Mills family. But the Mills lived very near a Mr John Bolling and his wife Mary, John was born in 1729, and settled on the Forks of the Little River (John Bolling first was in NC in 1755) . He claimed Indian descent from Pocahontas, and in fact used the name Metucha (spelling) which was the Indian name for Pocahondas. Any Bolling's in your line? 3. Hi Ernie, I'm descended from the Haywood Co. Mills, that lived on Scotts Creek which is now in present day Jackson Co. N.C. From what we know the Mills Family was in Montgomery Co. N.C. prior to moving to Haywood Co. N.C., and that Montgomery Co. is close to Guilford Co. which had a large Quaker settlement. There was a family living in Guilford Co. Deep River area, with the surname Mills many of them having given names that also appears among the Montgomery Co./Haywood Co. Mills Family...I had read somewhere that the surname Mills was one of the surnames among the Quaker community in N.C. May I ask what is your line of descent from Thomas Mills and Mary Mills ? Also in your branch is there a oral story of Native American descent ? Surnames: Mills Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/jE1.2ACEB/3556 Message Board Post: I have a Matthew Mills who is my 3x great granddad. His first US census (that I've found) is 1900 when he is married to a Katie and they already have 7 children. He lists his birth month as June and his birth year as 1856 in England, and his year of immigration is 1880. He and Katie state they have been married for 17 years, I have a marriage date for them as 17 Dec 1881, which means they met very soon after he got off the boat. She was born in Feb 1866 in Kentucky. In 1910 there is only one small change to the info being that he immigrated in 1879 (instead of 1880), and they now have 8 out of 8 children living. There is a passenger list from the "City of Berlin" ship from England to New York that lists a M J Mills that could possibly be my Matthew, it arrived 29 April 1878. If anyone else has this family feel free to contact me and if anyone can help me find Matthew's English info I would be very appreciative. Jodi
