    2. Helen S. Ullmann
    3. There are a number of excellent articles about the various early Smiths on Long Island. I don't have the references to them. I'd have to look on PERSI. I think the most recent is by Fred Hart. They are probably all in the NEW YORK GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD. although there's a so-called Smith issue in THE AMERICAN GENEALOGIST. You can search on PERSI on Heritage Quest Online. Better narrow it down to those two journals because Smith is an impossible name to search for, of course. If you can't find them, and you really, really want them, I could take time to locate them. But not this week. I'll be at the big FGS conference in Boston all week. Helen Ullmann

    2. Pat, The parents of Thomas Warren Mills were William Franklin Mills born 1849 in Naples, Illinois and Clara McNeal. Married in 1874 in Illinois. Thomas Warren married a Maggie Jane Vaden in Oklahoma. Here are some more. William Franklin parents' were Jerome B. Mills b 1818 and Emaline Southard..Illinois. Besides William they had two other sons, Thomas b 1849 and Warren b. 1847? both born in Il and died in Oklahoma. So somewhere in there they must have a Warren ..but who knows where. sally -------------- Original message -------------- From: ChekWriter@aol.com > Might I ask if you know who the parents were for Thomas WARREN MILLS? > > There are several Warren MILLS, who might have named their son Thomas and > WARREN as the middle name? > > Thank you > > pat > cw > Just curious > > > ============================== > Census images 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871, plus so much more. > Ancestry.com's United Kingdom & Ireland Collection. 1. Samuel Denton - Martha MILLS
    2. For Samuel DENTON and Martha MILLS, their dates of birth and death do not coincide with the ones that you are saying that Martha married John LEWIS. Maybe you should go back and re read that research and make sure which it truly belongs. Sue MONTGOMERY's web site, see below, is very Concise, and accurate to a fault. (famous last words of Mrs. Fischer.) The Samuel DENTON and a Martha SMITH is the family that shares the dates that you are detailing. Hope that the web site referral will be of some assistance. And with the information that Helen provided, also. Pat cw I don't have info about this family. Use this url and go to the DENTON web page. www.dentongenealogy.org When the page comes up, scroll down till you see : "List of Each Surname in Database". This will bring up all the surnames, arranged in alphabetical order, The surname " MILLS" is there, click on it and Family Page for Martha MILLS and a Samuel DENTON will come up. There are several children listed, The Samuel listed born 1704 died in 1780. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Pat, Nice to hear from you again. Josephine MORAN VAN VALKENBURG MILLS was born abt 1846-48 in Cinn OH. But I do not have a birth cert. They were not issued back in the 1840-50's. I don't know to which church they belonged. Josephine was the daughter of Michael MORAN & Julia HURLEY. I have found from Emmigrant Savings Bank Records that Michael MORAN opened the acct stating he was from, Carrick, Westmeath, Ire...arrived in US in May 6, 1832. He had a brother, Patrick living in Troy, NY, 2 sisters, Ann & Bridget living in NY & his mother, Bridget CONRY MORAN. His father, also Michael, was deceased. Michael & Julia had 2 sons, born NYC ...Frank born 1840 & John born 1842. Michael was a moulder/founder by trade. The MORAN's were Roman Catholic They were in OH in 1844-46 when 1st daughter, Maria (Mary) Elizabeth MORAN was born...supposedly Covington, Miami Co, OH according to IGI...but there is also a Covington, KY right across the river from Cinn...I haven't found them in either place. Josephine F. MORAN was supposedly born in Cinn, OH about 1846-48. Her death cert lists Cinn, NY. From what I have read, the rr was just being built thru Covington, Miami Co, OH at that time, so it is possible Michael was working as a founder/moulder with the rr...pure speculation on my part. They were back in NYC on Nov 13, 1850 as Michael opened the ESB acct then. They were in NYC in 1860 & 70 Census. Sometime between 1870 & 1880 Michael MORAN died, not sure if in NYC or NJ, but Julia, widow, was living with her daughter, Josephine & Joseph MILLS in Jersey City, NJ in 1880 census. Julia is buried in Jersey City & Mary MORAN ROOME, Josephine's sister, is buried with her mother in Holy Name Cem, Jersey City. Michael MORAN is not there. Mary MORAN married Abner Q.C. ROOME in NYC 21 Sept 1867 Josephine F. MORAN married Tremain VAN VALKENBURG in Jersey City, NJ in 1872...I have marriage return...her residence was given as New York, his as Jersey City...they had a daughter Lillie, born 1873. In 1878 Josephine, widow, married Joseph MILLS, also in Jersey City, NJ at St Joseph's RC Church. I also have marriage return. They had 2 daughters: Hannah B.MILLS, aka Dorothy/Dottie, born Apr 1881, Jersey City, my grandmother, married Frank Warren MATHEWS Blanche L. MILLS, born May 1888 PA. From Josephine MILLS' obit is says Blanche married a PARTRIDGE. Both Blanche & my grandparents, Frank W. & Hannah (Dottie) MILLS MATHEWS were living in Norwood, MA. From Census & Jersey City City Directories, Joseph : 1878-79-80 living at 142 Cottage Ave JC, telegraph operator 1900 living at 43 Van Riper, JC 1918 living @ 111 Duncan Ave 1920 & 1930 Censuses Joseph MILLS no longer living here, but step daughter, Lillie, is with her husband, Clarence HARTPENCE According to the Census Joseph MILLS was a telegraph operator & a RR Ticket Agent. At the time of Josephine & Joseph MILLS' marriage he was a telegraph operator. Josephine was a few years older than Joseph and as time goes on her birth year changes on the censuses & she gets younger. Josephine MILLS died in Jersey City, NJ May 25, 1918. She is buried in Jersey City Cem in a pauper's grave. I haven't found where Joseph MILLS is buried or when he died. But I would guess between 1918 & 1920. I have seen other MILLS graves in Jersey City Cemetary & one of these days I hope to get up there to photgraph them & post the graves to the MILLS board. Meanwhile, I am still hoping to find Joseph MILLS' birth info so I can find who his mother was. But I am not sure what religion was at the time b/4 marrying Josephine MORAN. Regards, Jeanine NJ ChekWriter@aol.com wrote: Hi Jeanine Back in 2001 you wrote on the MILLS surname that Josephine MORAN was from Cincinnati, Hamilton Co. Ohio? Did you find this not to be correct? Thank you Pat cw It would change the MILLS possibilities a little bit. Abner MILLS - Betsey MARSH etc. family might then be related in some way to Joseph, maybe. And or the MILLS who later settled in Clinton Co. Ohio as well. Also MILLS LAYTON WILSON BARRERE families too, were in the area. ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers. 1. Re: [MILLS] Re: Samuel Denton
    2. Monty: I did not mean that I was saying that you, particularly, were incorrect. NO not at all. I just meant from what I keep finding on this family on rootsweb.com, and other gen sites, there are so many contradictions. And that many of the Samuel DENTON and Martha ? or MILLS are aligned with several different John "ROCK" SMITH's. So I was hoping someone who are or were or ? whatever, might have a little more insight to this area of research. That is, DENTON people or SMITH people, or at best, Helen S ULLMAN who has done extensive research, and has published a book. Not, that the book, helps me a whole heck of a lot. In that, now with DNA testing, it has thrown a "Monkey Wrench" into all of my cousins and myself long years of research in the toilet, so to speak. But it was extremely nice of Helen to chime in, and give us the references about where to find the info about DENTON - MILLS, Samuel and Martha. I just hope we have the right ones. There is a Samuel DENTON who married a Martha DENTON, too. That may be causing others to have misgivings along with me. Please accept my heartfelt apology if I insulted you. I meant no disrespect to anyone, especially you. I no longer am able to get out of my apartment, except for doctor's appointments, and medication evaluations. So hard duty research is now kind of off limits for a while. Thank you, PLEASE. Pat cw _www.familytreedna.com_ (http://www.familytreedna.com) search: MILLS click: MILLS click the link go to bottom of that page click: DNA results see category 600. Now has 5 DNA kits tested. They match, at least, on the 12 markers. I have saved up for the next group of markers and test results should be back by Sept. 12th or so.

    3. I can save you some time on this line of thought. Joseph and Hannah (Maris) Mills is not the Joseph you are looking for in this inquiry, nor part of this Mills line unless the connection is prior to 1687. Joseph and Hannah came to Clinton Co. OH in December of 1812. They removed from Guilford Co. NC in September of 1812. I believe he then changed his name back to Edward KIRK who was my great-grandfather as this scenario agrees with family stories of him coming to Canada on his own at age 16 and his parents' names on his marriage license are listed as William & Hannah KIRK of Lincolnshire. 2. It would seem odd to me that she would remain married to him for 17 years, then marry another and have 9 children, off the bat. (After age 38 years) That is why I am asking if maybe you are barking up the wrong DENTON MILLS marriage? As prolific as the MILLS and DENTON family seems to have been, it just does not ring true.
