These were my Grandmother Hixie Elzina Mills Anderson's parents. Thanks for your help. In case you haven't noticed, I'm new to this.

    2. No I have not done that gene thing. I am not going to do a DNA test if it means trying to get blood. Maybe another way would work. Most of my kin stayed in york cty, ME...tho the newer generations did move alittle. I am not there yet...just trying to anchor down who my Dad's family is linearly. I do have the names and have most of the data too...but I have so much, now what. I will add it to Rudge's site...and move on. I also have th James Mason Hutchings line (dad's mom) and the francis cooke line. That ventures down to the Leonards/thompsons and that is a fun bunch too. Haven't gone past the direct line there either...tho I seem to be finding more to look at "out there" a ways. What I would like to find is a Mills' cousin that is close. The brother of my grampa had three sons and they have had children...the son's of course have died. I don't think my dad knew any of these folks ...leastways he NEVER talked about his family. I know there were cousins in Lowell, MA but they were not Mills.s...they were from his mom's side. And my Mom's sides are going to be very hard...that is always in the back of my mind too. Battan, Gruber, Clark......not alot of Battan's but alot of Clarks...and the mennonite grubers. ARGHHHH.. We are supposed ly linked by a great something grandfather of Wm Clarks who came down the river...but it has to be close to the top of that family so the link can't be made YET. I have been in contact with a distant cousin and she has other's that have all heard the same story. But how to get there...Census' doesn't really work after a time and I think the family was a poor farming family in the south...migrated to Illinois and some of that part we know. However, like my Dad's parents/grand...Mom's moved west from Illinois, SC and PA. I am too old. Hang in there and keep on truckin!! sally -------------- Original message -------------- From: ChekWriter@aol.com > Have you tried doing a search on one of the many genes sites, looking for > MILLS of those areas? > > Might bring up some names that which you are in search. > > Know that some of the MILLS left TN along with GIBSON and GULICK and went to > Ohio, may have left there and moved back down to TN and then places farther > south and west. > > Oh TN NC GA AL FL > Oh TN NC MO OK TX > > pat > cw > > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection. 2. Hi Mars: The only 2 that I use all the time, are RootsWeb.com and Gencircles.com. As presently they are free. I cannot afford Ancestry.com anymore. Limited income and all of that. Their sites also are good in that they give you some categories to plug in info and then they sort by it. Not sure about other gen sites and how they work as have not used them. Genealogy.com, they do not seem to sort by the info you plug in. They just list all names similar to first name last name. Does not seem to take into consideration spouse names, or place of where they lived. kindridcousins.com? Do not know much about them. Maybe others can recommend too. Must be hundreds out there? 1. Re: [MILLS] Mills of TN
    2. On the DNA test, you can do the MTDNA test, but it is more expensive. That is for the female line back to the female MILLS of your family. If you know that at one time, there was female mills ancestor, that test would prove it out. I am not acquainted with how to read those results, but going to the dna web site, one of your choice, may give more insight how it definitely will prove out. Yes, for sure, no blood is needed. Just a simple swab, in the a.m. and the p.m. in the inside of your mouth, send it in and a little time passes and the results are given you via email. Posted on the web site, to see how many other families of similar situation you will match. For the male side, so much less expensive, and does give the numbers and also that your DNA will match with other surnames possibly. Very interesting stuff. Wish I had paid more attention to Life Science in school. Might have lead to a better profession than I sort of was forced into. Ah, genealogy, brings out so much information and history etc, too late. Pat cw

It has more Spaces for info to search by. Great. RootsWeb.com is similar except for the first page. You put in just the first and last name. then hit search. Brings up maybe a long list of all those with that name. Then you have to go down to the bottom of page and then narrow down the sort criteria. Birth, place, death death, place names, spouse and family, etc. I seem to have imported your family of David etc and it was sourced by John Luddy Burke, Jr., but no dates are posted as to his sources or import source. Also a reference of Connie Perkins April 2005. Is this your database? He is listed as son of Alexander and Alice GENT MILLS. Seems David had a brother Absalom MILLS, GA, sp: Mary Cash. etc

Jackson MILLS is listed as GA. that family or part of it may have moved back up to TN and named their children such names. Good Luck in your research. Pat cw
