James Owen was living with son James Mills when the whole family died of milk fever...NOT related to alcohol fever. Milk fever, from what I understand, comes from cows who have grazed on poisonous plants. This is what happened to the Mills family after settling on Congress lands in the Patoka River bottoms in Gibson County, Indiana. He married Virginia Moreland and they had 7 children, I believe - Floyd, Jr., Edith Mary, Margaret Ruth, and Samuel. Three died in infancy. I do know they were in Pineville and eventually moved to Harlan, County. I know nothing of Floyd's family. There was/is an Aunt Lizzie in Pineville but I'm not sure she is related to Floyd or Virginia. I do know Floyd was killed in a coal mine accident in the late 30's and is buried in Pineville. My mother's maiden name was Edith Mills, daugher of Floyd and Virginia Mills. Mom was from Pineville, or at least went to school there. At some point they moved to Evarts, KY., and who knows where else. Mom is the only living sib and she has endstage Alzheimer's and I know nothing about her family. The name Clyde sounds familiar and I do recall hearing Mom mention Crank's Creek. I do know she had an Aunt Lizzie that lived/lives in Pineville. I don't know if Aunt Lizzie is from my grandfather's side or grandmother's side. Does any of this ring a bell?
