Second, then we have those relatives who are not at all interested in imparting any of their knowledge about the family. Are not forthcoming with any information, about themselves and or what they know. Third. Well, lets just say some skeletons are best left where they are hanging in the "closet". Sleeping Dogs lie, as the saying goes. Fourth, Well, that is not a good Third either. Fifth, Skeleton's are found to be very intereseting tidbits about our family in general. That is, applies to any and all who wish to do their family tree. Adultery. Rape. Incest. Bank robbers. Hanged for Treason. Depends on which side of the treason one happened to be, etc. Bigamist's. etc. Sixth: Well, let's just say, that the new tool, DNA testing, does bring out a lot more of Skeletons once thought permanently buried in those closet's. Seventh: Turns out DNA may reflect that you are not of the SURNAME that you always thought you were descended. Eighth: Exciting and one has to be in their shoes at the time. My grandfather told me that my paternal gg-gf died of the bubonic plague when my g-gf was about 5 years old and is buried at either Logansport or Longstreet?!? near Desoto Parrish, LA. So there is very little that known of this side of my family and from what I know there is no one for me to inquire of within the family. This is what I have thus far. My g-gf is YV Mills (1913-1990) married to Gertha Gibbs. Both were born in Desoto Parrish, LA removed around 1930 to east Texas until Gertha passed away and then YV lived the remainder of his life in the DFW area of Texas. my gg-gf: Holly H. Mills (Hally H. Mills) born 1887 married a Pearl Ivy born 1892 both were born in Mississippi---per 1910 US Census I could not locate any other records with this name. However, there is a Hines Hallie Mills bn:1885 registered as living in Desoto Parrish, LA Sept. 1918 with wife that appears to be Pearl (handwriting wasn't the best)as nearest relative listed in World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918. Common sense says this is my guy. 1900 United States Federal Census about Hines H Mills Name: Hines H Mills Home in 1900: Center, Attala, Mississippi Age: 13 Birth Date: Jun 1886 Birthplace: Mississippi Race: White Ethnicity: American Relationship to head-of-house: Son Father's Name: James W Father's Birthplace: Alabama Mother's Name: Ella Mother's Birthplace: Mississippi Marital Status: Single Residence : Beat 5 Center, Attala, Mississippi Name Age James W Mills 46 Ella Mills 32 shows both Ella's parents also born in MS. Robert H Mills 15 Hines H Mills 13 Lena E Mills 9 Amand J Mills 6 William H Mills 5 Lilla E Mills 3 Annie P Mills 1 James and Ella married 1889 per the census information. >From there I pulled this: (maybe Hollys' dad?) 1860 United States Federal Census about James W Mills Name: James W Mills Age in 1860: 6 Birth Year: abt 1854 Birthplace: Alabama Home in 1860: Leake, Mississippi Gender: Male Post Office: Carthage Household Members: Name Age H H Mills 36 shows him being born in GA Martha Mills 24 shows her born in GA? 1900 census for James says mom was born in AL. Louisa Mills 8 James W Mills 6 Frances A Mills 4 Nancy Mills 2.12 Anyone have any further information on these two? There are several James W. Mills floating around and I can't seem to find a matching Ella. Maybe Ella is a middle name? Your spelling of MacCormick is different than mine but it varies where they may have come from. My Hiram 1804 was born in NY but lived most of his life in NJ. Woodruff is mentioned often in my line but can't get the connection yet. What I'm really trying to do is get some information on where Hiram's b-1804 NY parents were born. I have a report on Hiram's parents being Born in NY & NJ. Would there be any way I can track him to Scotland where ever his parents would have been from.
