    3. Beware of Ignatious Few land records / deeds! One thing that must be considered though. I'm not 100% sure we can rely on when anyone was anywhere. I've read some history on the GA land grants, both regular and military, and it was about as corrupt as you can imagine. The Ignatious Few to whom Robert sold land granted to him in 1775 was one of the biggest land crooks in GA. He would forge a soldier's signature on deeds that purported to prove the soldier turned his military land grant over to Ignatious. Few accumulated thousands of acres this way. He married Millie Fuqua POOL on 25 Dec 1828 in Baldwin Co., GA. They resided in Talbot Co., GA in 1830, Muscogee Co., GA in 1850 and 1860, then came to Pike Co., AL after the war to be near their daughter (my gt-gt-grandmother Tabitha Ann), whose husband Hugh Ross RODGERS had died as a POW in Camp Douglas, IL in January 1865. Family tradition has it that Thomas Vining MILLER's father was one Ezekiel MILLER. We know that Millie Fuqua POOL's father was Nicholas POOL, and that T. V. & M. F. named a son Nicholas Ezekiel MILLER, presumably for his two grandfathers. The problem, assuming that Thomas Vining MILLER was indeed a son of Ezekiel MILLER, is to determine WHICH Ezekiel MILLER. Jeptha VINING was the founding pastor of the Long Creek Bapt. Church in Warren Co., GA (1786). Members in that year included Daniel Jackson, Moses Granberry, Joshua Vining, Uriah Vining, Thomas Vining, Mary Jackson, Sarah Miller, and Mary Vining. Members between 1799 and 1819 included Ezekiel Miller, Thomas Vining, James Raley, Sarah Miller, Frances McCrary, Mary Vining, and Frances Raley [see Ga. Genealogical Mag., Spring 1971]. I feel very confident that this Ezekiel was the father of my ancestor Thomas Vining MILLER, who was apparently named for Thomas VINING who was a member of this church at the same time as was Ezekiel MILLER. Here's an interesting tidbit from Mary B. WARREN's collection of Marriages and Deaths from GA Newspapers: 1820-30. Mr. E. MILLER (Revolutionary soldier) age 73, was married to Miss Milly WATSON (both of Baldwin Co.) on May 21, 1823 by Bartley McCRARY. If Ezekiel were 73 in 1823, then he was born ca 1750. Note that Thomas Vining MILLER's da. Sarah Lucinda MILLER (b. 5 Mar 1836 Muscogee Co., GA) married 1 June 1854 in Musc. Co. to Robert A. McCRARY--coincidence? Georgia Citizens and Soldiers of the American Revolution (DAVIS) says that Ezekiel and Joshua MILLER were in Wilkes Co., GA by 5 July 1777. Georgia's Roster of the Revolution (WRIGHT) says that Ezekiel, Joshua, and Jesse MILLER all applied for 287.5 acres of bounty land (each) between 23 and 25 Feb 1784, with certification of service by Col. Greenberry LEE. Bounty surveys show that Ezekiel MILLER received 287.5 acres in Washington Co. on the Ogeechee River 17 Nov 1784. Ignatius FEW received 287.5 acres in Washington Co. on Williamson's Swamp Creek, bounded on the north by Jesse MILLER. [I did not copy date!] Warren Co. GA deed book A, p. 536 shows grantors Jesse MILLER and wife Ann to James GEORGE, grantee, dated 9 May 1792; witnesses Joshua MILLER, Isaiah TUCKER, and Henry HARDIN. Warren Co. GA deed book B, pp. 111-112 records a deed of slaves from Jesse MILLER to his sons Theophilus, Joshua, and Ezekiel on 28 July 1802 and 7 Nov 1801. [This Ezekiel (born ca 1783 GA) and Theophilus (b. ca 1787 GA) MILLER almost surely turn up later in Bibb Co., AL--both had sons named Jesse.] Warren Co. GA deed book B, pp. 113 records a deed from Jos. GEORGE and wife Susannah to Ezekiel MILLER (all of Warren Co.) dated 21 Nov 1800; witnesses Gideon GEORGE, Henry HARDIN, and Jesse MILLER. Baldwin Co. marriage records: William MILLER & Thena(?) PEDIGREW 04 May 1810 Jonathan A. MILLER & Lucy BARROW 09 May 1822 Elizabeth MILLER & Furna(?) IVEY 20 June 1822 Ezekiel MILLER & Milly WATSON 23 May 1823 [he was a Rev. solider!] John MILLER & Miss Elizer S? HOWARD 27 Nov 1823 Jesse MILLER & Drewseller HARRIS 30 July 1826 Thomas V. MILLER & Milley F. POOL 25 Dec 1828 [my ancestors] (One Justice of the Peace was George Gregg MILLER on 20 June 1831) Ezekiel MILLER & Elizabeth RUSSELL 25 Nov 1832 James B. MILLER & Martha SULLIVAN 18 Mar 1833 Edward W. MILLER & Permelia WILKERSON 11 Aug 1833 The 1810 Baldwin Co. tax digest has four MILLER's listed: Basil, Ezekiel, Joseph, and Nathaniel. 1820 Warren Co. GA has Martha MILLER (p. 266); Jesse MILLER (p. 267); and James MILLER (p. 270). 1820 Baldwin Co., GA has Jesse MILLER born 1794-1804 (p. 28); Nathaniel MILLER born bef. 1775 (p. 44); Ezekiel MILLER born bef. 1775 (p. 48); and Jacob MILLER born bef. 1775 (p. 50). 1830 Warren Co. GA has David MILLER and Martin T. MILLER (p. 183); Martha MILLER and Jesse MILLER (p. 205). 1830 Baldwin Co., GA has Irwin MILLER (p. 28); and Basil MILLER (p. 30). WYND's Baldwin Co. (GA) Records, and Delwyn Assoc.'s Baldwin Co.(GA) Records, include the following: Land Lottery Records: (Reg. 15 Mar 1819) In Watson's District: Jacob MILLER and Laban POOL (bro. of Millie Fuqua POOL who married Thomas Vining MILLER). (Reg. Apr-May 1821) Capt. Amos YOUNG's District: Ezekiel MILLER, Jonathan A. MILLER, John MILLER. In 1840 Talladega Co., AL is an Ezekiel MILLER (age 50-60--obviously not the Rev. soldier, but barely old enough to be Thomas Vining MILLER's father), with a family including apparent wife, a male age 40-50, one younger male and three younger females. It is my theory that Jesse, Ezekiel, and Joshua MILLER who applied together for bounty land in Washington Co., GA as Revolutionary soldiers were probably brothers. Jesse had sons by his first marriage named Joshua, Theophilus, and Ezekiel (the latter two came to Bibb Co., AL where many descendants still live today--I've got data on them). I believe that the Ezekiel of the Long Creek Bapt. Church in Warren Co. was Jesse's brother, and that this Ezekiel was my Thomas Vining MILLER's father. I invite corrections, questions, comments, and/or suggestions about any of the above. --Ron Head (Montgomery, AL) ronhead@knology.net
