    1. [MLR] Repost: Stefan Mueller/Anna Kopic, Austria 1850s
    2. Steve Miller
    3. I am looking for information of Stefan Mueller (or Stephan and/or Miller... transliteration being what it is!). He was born Sept 8, 1854, in the village of Schmeil, [Austria], and died Feb 23, 1914, in New York City. His father was "Mueller, Stefan, tailor of Schmeil"; his mother, "Mueller, Theresa, daughter of George Klein, laborer of Schmeil." This 1880 "Birth and Baptism Certificate" was probably prepared in anticipation of his emmigration. It further discloses that Schmeil was in the Crownland of Moravia, the Political District of Liebau, and the Diocese of the Town of Liebau. He married Anna Kopic, born June 20, 1854, in Cerkanov, [Austria.] She was the daughter of Joseph Kopic, peasant of Cakanova, and Anna, the "legitimate daughter" of Martin Dockala, peasant of Lhoty. Cerkanov was in the province of Bohemia, county of Czaslau, and the political district of German Brod. The copy of her Certificate of Baptism was made in the municipal office at Krasny Hora, March 15, 1878. (Where Stefan's is written in German, hers is written in Hungarian.) Anna Mueller died in Brooklyn, NY, (recorded: Müller) April 18, 1936. She and Stephan had 6 children: Stephanie (known as Fanny), Stephen, Lucy, Arthur, Alfred, Lillian and May (also known as Mary). Stephen was my grandfather. Likely born in 1886, he married Elizabeth Frances Peiser. They had one child, my father, Charles Stephen Miller. This is pretty much the sum total of what I know of my Millers. Apparently, there was some sort of schism between my grandfather and his siblings, though there continued some contact over the years with "Little" Lillie, Lillian's daughter. In fact, it's through her that I have even these records. Hope this looks familiar to someone out there, or that suggestions for further productive avenues of research will result from this posting. I'm not so much interested as in going backwards as finding the offspring of my great aunts and uncles!
