You have brought up some good points for all of us to think about. One of the problems I've run into in some states whilst reading the 1870 census was the enumerators used only initials for the given and middle names. Also, as if that wasn't bad enough, I don't have to tell any of you how hard it is sometimes to figure out if you are looking at a capital L or capital S just to mention a few letters. CGM
