It would seem that your John McKinney born abt 1839 may be a descendant of the elder Henry McKinney , but I am not sure exactly how... For the record- Henry McKinney's (the elder) estate was filed for probate 31 Dec 1836 in Cole Co MO, Case No. 378A and also No. 297A. The listing of heirs is in Case No. 378A and reads as follows: We the undersigned do swear that to the best of our knowledge and belief,the following named persons are the legal heirs of Henry McKinney deceased towit James McKinney, David Chambers, Martin Gouge, the heirs of Polly Harmon, formerly Polly McKinney, John Gouge, Henry McKinney, John McKinney,Sally McKinney & James Cravens, all of whom reside in Cole County Missouri, that the deceased died intestate, that we will make a perfect inventory of faithfully administer all the estate of the deceased and pay the debts as far as the assets will extend and the law direct, and account for and pay all assets which shall come to our hands or knowledge. s/ William Miller ** s/John Harmon Sworn to and subscribed before me this 31st day of Dec 1836. s/ E L Edwards clerk county court NOTE:The husbands of Henry McKinney's daughters are listed as the heirs of his estate, rather than the daughters themselves. The Sally McKinney listed above is Sarah McKinney b 1811 who married Louis A Piper before Henry McKinney's estate was settled, and her share in the final distribution was paid to Louis A Piper. I am thinking that your John McKinney born abt 1839 may be a son, or grandson, of either James, John or Henry (II) listed as the sons of the 'elder' Henry McKinney. Perhaps someone on the Cole CO site knows. Does anyone on this site know of a John McKinney born abt 1839 who married Mary E. Gossett abt 1883? &... I am researching Caswell McKinney who married Anna Murray. This Caswell was the s/o James William McKinney>Henry McKinney (the elder) listed in the probate above.
